A Hybrid System Approach for High Consumption Industrial Furnace Control  [PDF]

Abstract: In this paper we describe a hybrid system approach for high consumption industrial furnace control. The problem is observed in systematic way starting from the need for modeling this system as hybrid. For description of this behavior we use the Hybrid System Description Language. After that, we design an optimal controller for the furnace and we simulate and compare the controller with other relevant predictive controllers. We have shown that using the hybrid approach for control of industrial furnaces leads to significant improvement of the control system performances.

Abstract: No processo de monoqueima para produ o de revestimentos ceramicos, o aparecimento do "cora o negro" ocorre sob determinadas condi es de matérias-primas utilizadas e parametros do processo industrial. Neste sentido, decidimos pesquisar os efeitos de uma atmosfera enriquecida com oxigênio para minimizar defeitos como o "cora o negro", com o objetivo de reduzir o ciclo de queima. Foram realizadas uma completa caracteriza o física e química das matérias-primas utilizadas. Os corpos de prova foram queimados em um forno de laboratório tipo camara, eletricamente aquecido, com controle de atmosfera, e simula o do processo de queima rápida. Fluxos de uma mistura de oxigênio e/ou misturas de oxigênio foram continuamente adicionados no forno por dois diferentes métodos. A tendência da elimina o do cora o negro em fun o da atmosfera do forno foi avaliada pela medida da rela o de volumes de cora o negro e volume total da amostra. Os resultados, conforme o modelo proposto, mostram que o efeito da atmosfera enriquecida com oxigênio segue as equa es determinadas pelos modelos cinéticos de rea o de oxi-redu o, que neste caso, determina a evolu o da elimina o do defeito "cora o negro" em fun o da atmosfera modificada com oxigênio introduzida no forno. Isto indica que além de melhorar a qualidade do produto final, pode-se aumentar a produtividade, reduzindo o ciclo de queima.
Research and Application on Two-stage Fuzzy Neural Network Temperature Control System for Industrial Heating Furnace  [cached]

Abstract: Industrial heating furnace has a great deal of special characteristics such as big capacity, long lag and non-linear trait, etc. In order to control it better, we present a sort of fuzzy neural network temperature control model. It can transform the rulers of fuzzy logic control to a pair of input-output samples of multilayer forward neural network.The knowledge is not expressed by a serial of rules but distributed into the whole network. Based on this model, we have designed a two-stage fuzzy neural network temperature control system for industrial heating furnace. The first-stage controller is responsible for determining the control variable according to deviation information of controlled variable. The second-stage controller takes charges of adjusting the control variable coming from the first-stage controller through other process parameters. The system takes full account of the impact of many process parameters on controlled variable. It uses two-stage fuzzy neural network controller to decentralize process of control parameters, which makes it easy to extract fuzzy rules, greatly reduces the number of fuzzy rules and produces reasonable control outputs. Engineering applications show that the system has a lot of advantages such as high accuracy, strong robustness, etc. Its quality is superior to conventional control and it is suitable for long lag, non-linear system in particular.

Abstract: O presente trabalho tem por objetivo avaliar a atividade catalítica e o perfil de temperaturas num reator integral de reforma a vapor de metano, aquecido por forno elétrico e recheado com um catalisador industrial. Foram efetuadas medidas de temperatura no leito em nove posi es axiais distintas e a composi o dos produtos da rea o foram determinadas por cromatografia. Os ensaios foram conduzidos com o forno a 500, 600 e 700oC, raz o molar de alimenta o [H2O/CH4 ] = 4 e densidade fluxo-mássico de 0,2 e 0,5 kg/m2.s. Os resultados indicam que a utiliza o dos nove pontos foi suficiente para representar o comportamento térmico do reator e evidenciam a existência de perdas decalor significativas nas extremidades do reator. Tanto a atividade catalítica como a convers o apresentam-se sensíveis à temperatura operacional, entretanto, a temperatura do leito é praticamente insensível à vaz o nas condi es experimentais exploradas. The present work has the objective to evaluate the catalytic activity and the temperature profile inside an integral steam reforming fixed bed reactor heated by an electrical furnace and packed with an industrial catalyst. Nine temperature measures were made along nine axial positions and the composition of the products reaction were evaluated by gas chromatography. The experimental conditions were: temperatures furnace of 500oC, 600oC, and 700oC, feed molar ratio [H2O/CH4] = 4, and mass flow rate of 0.2 and 0.5 kg/m2.s. The results show that the use of the nine points was enough to represent the thermal behavior of the reactor. Both the catalytic activity and the conversion depend of operational temperature. However, the fixed bedtemperature is independent of mass flow rate at the used experimental conditions.

Abstract: this study focuses on investigating the integration between reverse engineering (re) and design for manufacture and assembly (dfma) as tools to support the conceptual design of products. from a literature review of these concepts, this research aims to examine the adequacy of a model for the integrated use of dfma and rapid prototyping in an er approach in the design of a new locking system for an industrial oven and recommend improvements in conceptual design of a new lock system. the research method employed was action-research since the aim was to solve a problem identified in the company, object of study, in partnership with the company team. the results of the conceptual design indicate reductions, especially in cost, time to manufacture, and assembly time. it was concluded that the integration model studied was adequate to support the design process of the locking system proposed by the er approach.

Abstract: According to the characteristics of the heat dissipation of industrial furnace wall, the mathematics model of its heat dissipation was established, and the SIMPLE method was adopted to solve these dimensionless equations,obtained that main heat loss of furnace body is between 0 and 0.1 of Y coordinate.This paper analyzed the capacity of the heat recycle after fixing plates for heat protection,through testing and calculating the heat dissipation of existing furnace wall.The result shows that the heat dissipation will fall from 1 524.8 W/m2 to 60.1 W/m2 exhausted to ambiencein. Under the almost similar condition,at the same time,the heat 404 kW can be reclaimed,the heat pollution was greatly reduced.
Compositional Simulation of a Refinery Coker Furnace - An Industrial Example of Two-Phase Flow with Chemical Reaction

Abstract: A computer program (KOKSOVN) has been developed for compositional steady-state simulation of a refinery delayed coker furnace. The main objective of this work has been to establish a tool for studying the effects that influence the deposition of coke on the inside walls of the tubes in order to maximize the time of operation (cycle time) between each cleaning of the tubes with a resulting stop in production. The program basically consists of a standard integration package which steps along the reactor (or pipeline) while solving the vapour-liquid equilibrium (VLE) and estimating physical properties for each step. Using a modular approach in the development, the resulting computer program has some general features which make it a possible simulation tool for any non-adiabatic plug flow reactor with two-phase flow. Depending on the chemical system, the routines for thermophysical and transport properties, phase equilibria and chemical reaction may be replaced by other methods. The program may also be used to simulate a pipeline with one or two-phase flow. Since, however, the total composition in this case is constant, it would probably be more efficient to use tables based on the pressure values, instead of performing tedious VLE calculations along the pipeline as is done in the present program.

Abstract: Este trabalho teve por objetivo a aplica o das Ferramentas do Controle Estatístico em um setor de uma Indústria de Transformador. O característico de qualidade selecionada para o estudo, foi a espessura de tinta no transformador em suas várias partes (Corpo, Radiador, Tampa e Suporte). Determinado o setor e característico de qualidade, uma folha de verifica o foi utilizada para a coleta dos dados, seguida pelo fluxograma, sugerindo uma nova metodologia para essa linha de produ o. A metodologia proposta teve por base um Modelo apresentado por Soares (2001, p. 66), com modifica es necessárias para se adequar a empresa em estudo. Para interpreta o dos dados, utilizou os Gráficos de Controle X e AM, nas diversas partes do transformador. Da análise dos dados coletados resultaram vários planos de a o de melhoria no processo, culminando, em alguns casos, no controle estatístico do mesmo. Ao obter o controleestatístico do processo, estabeleceram-se os limites de controle que permitir o monitorar daqui para frente tais processos, bem como calcular seus índices de capacidade. A análise, na qual diagnosticou-se a permanência do processo fora de controle, será necessário continuar, com estudo das causas da variabilidade. This paper aimed at applying Statistics Control Tools in a Transformer Industry sector. The quality characteristic selected to this study was the thickness of painting in several parts of thetransformer (body, radiator, cover and support). After selecting the sector and the quality characteristic, a sheet of verification was used to collect the data. A new methodology was suggested to this production line. The methodology proposed has as base a Modelpresented by Soares (2001, p. 66), with necessary modifications to fit to the company under study. The data were analyzed by X and AM Control Graphs in several parts of the transformer. Many improvement plans resulted from the analysis and some of them in the statistics control. After achieving statistics control of the process, control limits were established and they will allow to monitor those processes from now on, as well as to calculate their capacity rates. In the analysis where the first out-of-control process was found, it will be necessary to continue the study of variability causes.

Abstract: The structure of fuel furnace-boiler for heating of premises of private saunas, for heating of private houses, cottages, accommodation spaces and industrial premises was developed. Design features improve operating characteristics of furnace-boiler, increase thermal effectiveness and cost effectiveness. The authors give the results of the end products of fuel combustion analysis in furnace. / Разработана конструкция топливной печи-котла для обогрева помещений индивидуальных бань, отопления частных домов, коттеджей, бытовых и производственных помещений. Конструктивные особенности улучшают эксплуатационные характеристики печи-котла, повышают тепловую эффективность и экономичность. Приведены результаты анализа продуктов сгорания топлива в печи.
Methods for monitoring heat flow intensity in the blast furnace wall  [PDF]

Abstract: In this paper we present the main features of an online system for real-time monitoring of the bottom part of the blast furnace. Firstly, monitoring concerns the furnace walls and furnace bottom temperatures measurement and their visualization. Secondly, monitored are the heat flows of the furnace walls and furnace bottom. In the case of two measured temperatures, the heat flow is calculated using multi-layer implicit difference scheme and in the case of only one measured temperature, the heat flow is calculated using a method based on application of fractional-order derivatives. Thirdly, monitored is the theoretical temperature of the blast furnace combustion process in the area of tuyeres.
