Abstract: the objectives of this work were to evaluate germination capacity of eugenia uniflora l. seeds and the growth of seedlings under shade conditions. the experiment was carried out at experimental research area of the unigran ? dourados, ms. germination test was done with 300 seeds and germination percentage and emergence speed index were evaluated. at the third month after emergence, the seedling growth experiment was carried out in a randomized block design with three treatment (50% and 70% of sunlight and at full sunlight) with four replications of 15 seedlings each treatment. when seedlings presented 4, 5, 6 and 7 months of age, height and stem diameter were evaluated and at the final of the experiment, total dried weight of seedlings (g), leaf area (dm2), leaf weight rate - rpf (g/g) and leaf specific weight - pef (g/dm2). eugenia uniflora l. is specie of easy propagation by seeds presenting 65,7% of germination and emergence speed index of 3.34, and seeds began their germination process 23 days after sowing. seedlings growth better under full sunlight conditions, where they showed biggest height, stem diameter, dried weight and leaf area.

Abstract: this experiment was carried out in a nursery at orchard of federal university of lavras (ufla), minas gerais state; in order to evaluate the growth seedling of surinam cherry in different substrates using the simple super phosphate. the study involved four doses of simple super phosphate 0; 2, 5; 5 e 10 kg m-3. and two substrates mix: a (organic compost + sand + soil in 1:1:3 volume proportion) and b ( plantmax + sand + soil 1:1:3 volume proportion) a randomized block design was used with factorial scheme 4x2, with four replications and five plants by plot. the plants were evaluated when they were in field condition by the following characteristic: high of plants (cm); length of root (cm); number of leaves/plant, dry matter of aerial part, root and total (g/plant). through the results was verify that in seedling of surinam cherry, it is recommended to mix to the substrate the fertilizer simple super phosphate until the dose 6 kg m-3. both substrates a or b are recommended for seedling of surinam cherry.

Abstract: Os objetivos deste trabalho foram avaliar a capacidade germinativa das sementes de pitanga e o crescimento das mudas sob condi es de sombreamento. O experimento foi conduzido na área de Pesquisa Experimental da UNIGRAN -- Dourados-MS. O teste de germina o foi realizado com 300 sementes, sendo avaliados a porcentagem de germina o e o índice de velocidade de emergência. Aos três meses após a emergência, o experimento de crescimento das mudas foi instalado em um delineamento de blocos casualizados, com três tratamentos (sombrite 50% e 70% de luz e a pleno sol), em 4 repeti es de 15 mudas por tratamento. Quando as mudas apresentavam 4; 5; 6 e 7 meses de idade, foram avaliados a altura e o diametro de caule, e ao final do ensaio, foram avaliados o peso seco total das mudas (g), a área foliar (dm2), a raz o de peso foliar - RPF (g/g) e o peso específico de folhas - PEF (g/dm2). A pitangueira é uma espécie de fácil propaga o por sementes, apresentando 65,7% de germina o e índice de velocidade de emergência de 3,34 , sendo que as sementes iniciaram o processo de germina o aos 23 dias após a semeadura. As mudas cresceram melhor sob condi o de luz plena, onde apresentaram maior altura, diametro de caule, peso seco e área foliar.

Abstract: the essential oil obtained from the leaves of eugenia uniflora l., myrtaceae, which grows in the brazilian savannah, was studied by gas chromatography mass spectrometry (gc-ms). furanodiene (1.2%) was thermally rearranged to curzerene (85.1%) to produce a combined content of 86.3%. gc analysis carried out under mild conditions (with a constant temperature of 100 oc) showed that the furanodiene concentration was three-fold greater than the curzerene concentration, i.e., the essential oil contained 64.7% furanodiene and 21.6% curzerene. germacrene b also rearranged to γ-elemene and the concentration of both was 2.3%. special care should be taken when conventional gas chromatography analysis is used for quantifying compounds that can rearrange at high temperatures.

Abstract: ResumoA pitangueira (Eugenia uniflora L.) é uma espécie arbórea, nativa do Bioma Mata Atlantica que, recentemente, tem sido explorada pelas indústrias alimentícias, cosméticas e medicinais. Para uma espécie nativa ser explorada comercialmente, é necessário conhecimentos básicos de ecologia e genética a fim de embasar estratégias de manejo e explora o sustentável. Esta revis o traz uma compila o dos trabalhos realizados com pitangueira no período de 1960 a 2010. Os primeiros trabalhos realizados com a espécie foram focados na caracteriza o taxon mica, buscando descritores específicos da espécie que permitissem diferenciá-las das outras espécies do Gênero. Os estudos ecológicos elucidaram a distribui o e os mecanismos reprodutivos. A identifica o de compostos ativos de interesse para saúde e cosmética e também, para a qualidade dos frutos para a indústria alimentícia, levou à explora o comercial. A fim de aperfei oar a produ o, estudos relacionados a aspectos agron micos tornaram-se essências, entre estes foram realizados estudos para identifica o de genótipos superiores e desenvolvimento de técnicas de plantio e manejo. Os trabalhos na área de genética s o recentes, da ultima década, e trazem informa es de diversidade genética das popula es naturais de pitangueira do Brasil. A compila o desses dados possibilitou observar que há um forte interesse econ mico na espécie. No entanto, os estudos realizados até o momento, s o insuficientes para o entendimento da ecologia da espécie. A explora o econ mica, sem o conhecimento básico, pode comprometer o futuro da mesma. Isso poderá ser evitado com a intensifica o de estudos na área de genética, ecologia e manejo sustentável de E. uniflora.AbstractThe Surinam cherry (Eugenia uniflora L.) is an arboreal species, native to the Atlantic Forest biome, which has recently been exploited by food and cosmetic industries and to the use as medicinal plant. For commercial exploitation of a native species is necessary basic knowledge of ecology and genetics in order to plane sustainable strategies of management. This review provides a compilation of scientific works with Surinam cherry in the period 1960 to 2010. The first studies with Surinam cherry were about taxonomic characterization. These works focused on find specific descriptors of the kind that enables us to distinguish them from other species of the genus. Abstract: this work had the objective of testing cleft grafting as a way to asexually propagate different genotypes of surinam cherry. bud wood of around 5 cm length were collected from seven genotypes of the germplasm bank of embrapa clima temperado, pelotas, rs. seedling plants of surinam cherry seedlings were used as rootstocks. the average diameter at the grafting point was 2.5 mm. grafting was done on september, 2006. the experiment was carried out as a completely randomized design with four replications and 10 plants per plot. evaluations were based on percentage of obtained plants in relation to the total number of grafts and percentage of grafts with leaf burst. percentages of grafts with leaf break were between 45.0% and 95% whereas percentages of grafting success in actually obtained the desirable clones were between 40.0% to 87.5%. percentages above 65.0% for evaluated parameters, leafing and grafting success were obtained in selections "pit 75", "pit 61" and "pit 137". there were differences among genotypes for percentage of cleft grafting success in surinam cherry propagation. this type of grafting is recommended for surinam cherry vegetative propagation.

Abstract: surinam cherry crop is growing fastly in the northeast region of brazil due to its fruit uses by the industry in processing juice and pulp. however, one of the main problems of this crop is the lack of an apropriated cultivar adapted to such climate environments and irrigated conditions. this work was carried out aiming to study the performance of ten among 85 surinam cherry accesses of ipa's germplasm collection cultivated under drip irrigation at the semi-arid region of pernambuco state. the following characteristics were evaluated: growth, yield and fruit quality of plants originated from seedlings as well as from grafting. surinam cherry trees have shown good adaptability to such environmental conditions, both in respect to plant growth characteristics as well as to yield and fruit quality. accesses have shown great variability in relation to physical-chemical characteristics of fruits. two promising materials were identified ˉ ipa-13.2 and ipa-1.1e, with better yielding and fruit quality characteristics.

Abstract: O trabalho foi conduzido na Esta o Experimental de Itambé - IPA, em Itambé - PE, com o objetivo de avaliar o pegamento da enxertia pelo processo de garfagem no topo em fenda cheia, em porta-enxertos com nove meses de idade, de dez genótipos de pitangueira usados como copa. O delineamento experimental foi o de blocos ao acaso, com três repeti es e dez tratamentos (IPA-1.1; IPA-1.3; IPA-2.2; IPA-3.1; IPA-3.2; IPA-4.3; IPA-7.3; IPA-11.3; IPA-14.3 e IPA-15.1). Os genótipos comportaram-se diferentemente quanto à capacidade de pegamento de enxertia, sendo IPA-7.3; IPA-2.2; IPA-11.3; IPA-4.3; IPA-3.1; IPA-14.3; IPA-15.1 e IPA-3.2 aqueles que apresentaram a melhor combina o enxerto x porta-enxerto, com valores de pegamento da enxertia variando de 81,5 a 53,5% para o primeiro e último genótipos, respectivamente. Os genótipos IPA-1.1 e IPA-1.3 obtiveram os menores percentuais de pegamento (20,0 e 38,5%, respectivamente).

Abstract: in a trial carried out at itambé experimental station ? ipa, pernambuco state, brazil, ten surinam cherry genotypes were cleft grafted on nine months old rootstocks in order to evaluate their grafting ability: ipa-1.1; ipa-1.3; ipa-2.2; ipa-3.1; ipa-3.2; ipa-4.3; ipa-7.3; ipa-11.3; ipa- 14.3 and ipa-15.1. genotypes behaved differently in its grafting ability, in which the majority of them has shown good relationship between rootstock x grafts. grafting percentages ranged from 81.5% to 53.5% for the highest uptaking ( ipa-7.3, ipa-2.2, ipa-11.3, ipa-4.3, ipa-3.1, ipa14.3, ipa-15.1 and ipa-3.2, respectively) and 20.0% to 38.5% for the lowest ones (ipa-1.1 and ipa-1.3, respectively).
