Discussion on Application of Multimedia Teaching in College English Vocabulary Teaching  [PDF]

Abstract: The rapid development of science and technology has created new condition for the teaching methods of higher English education, which has greatly enriched the English teaching resources and has promoted the renovation of English teaching methods. As a second to none common language in the world, English has always been playing an important role in international communication, and has been valued highly in the educational circles. Compared with previous English teaching, modern college English teaching has the characteristics of convenient and efficient and is easily to be accepted by students. Considering the diversity and comprehensiveness of college English, it is necessary to divide it into such secondary subjects as vocabulary, grammar and reading, in order to help students to develop learning interest in English in daily life, and to achieve the purpose of reducing students’ burden. This paper discusses the current application situation and problems of multimedia teaching in college English vocabulary teaching and the countermeasures with emphasis, hoping to provide beneficial views for the research and practice of innovative classroom teaching methods.

Abstract: With the reform of college English teaching, multimedia-aided listening teaching has become the focus. This paper puts forth the current situation and requirement of college English teaching, gives a brief introduction of constructivism theory of learning, analyses the advantages of multimedia teaching, and proposes some teaching tips with the aid of multimedia in listening class to meet the demands of new curriculum requirement.

Abstract: Through a questionnaire and a survey, the paper analyses the present College English teaching and the contributing factors for the ineffective College English teaching. Based on the analysis, the paper suggests four countermeasures to improve College English teaching quality. According to this paper, only when teachers and educational workers continue to learn modern foreign language teaching theory, reform teaching methods and patterns, instruct students in adjusting learning strategies, train students’ intercultural communication competence, and enhance the construction of College English course, can we improve the teaching effect and students’ practical English competence.

Abstract: Based on empirical research and qualitative analysis, this paper aims to explore the effectiveness of multimedia assisted methods in college English teaching. It seems and has been proved by some studies that multimedia assisted methods can effectively promote students’ English learning. But the results of this study do not positively contribute to the previous hypothesis. Is multimedia a definite facilitator in college English teaching? The paper is trying to draw attention and offer insights into this problem.

Abstract: The lexical collocation in English is an important content in the linguistics theory, and also a research topic which is more and more emphasized in English teaching practice of China. The collocation ability of English decides whether learners could masterly use real English in effective communication. In many years’ English teaching practice, the author found that many college students often ignored the learning and study of the target language collocation, so they would make many collocation mistakes in English writing, dialog, and exams. The main representations and causes of these mistakes are analyzed in this article, and the main countermeasures of these mistakes would be proposed for teachers’ teaching and students’ learning.

Reducing Cognitive Load in Multimedia-based College English Teaching

Abstract: Based on empirical research and qualitative analysis, this paper aims to explore reducing cognitive load in multimedia-based college English teaching. According to cognitive load theory of multimedia learning (CLTML), rational distribution of cognitive resources can effectively reduce cognitive overload. The findings of the study between the experimental group and the controlled group show that the average performance of the former in the test is much better than that of the latter, proving that instructional design guided by CLTML may facilitate reducing cognitive overload and enhance meaningful processing.

Abstract: Vocabulary teaching is very important in college English teaching. Although traditional vocabulary teaching costs a lot of time and effort, the actual teaching effect is not so good. The so-called associative teaching is to deepen grammar and cultural connotation from the perspective of form, sound and meaning in its essence. This article has analyzed the problems exist in college English vocabulary teaching and proposed the application countermeasures of associative teaching strategy in college English vocabulary teaching starting from the mode and importance of associative teaching strategy, which has laid foundation for improving the efficiency of college English vocabulary teaching.
