The purpose of this communication is to define the mechanisms of I decentering and resignification of the Minotaur from Greek mythology in the Borgesian bestiary, through some categories of Deleuze and Guattari, as well as some intertextual tools, so as to inquire whether the borgesian animal is a reservoir of intensive vital positions that contribute to a better understanding of what is human.

Abstract: Introducción. Background. In the surgical approaches to the posterior fossa, the accurate location of the transverse-sigmoid sinus (TS-SS) complex is of great importance. The asterion is a referal landmark to the transverse sinus location. Method. Twenty-Iive skulls of adult cadavers were studied. We seek for the relationships of the asterion with: TS location, mastoid emissary vein, suprameatal crest and inion. Results. The asterion was found in 49 cases. In the great majority of cases (87.8%) the asterion was over the TS (72.2% over the sinus proper, 27.8% over the TS-SS transition). The mastoid emissary vein was present in 46 cases, and in 36% we found two veins. Discussion and conclusions. The burr hole for posterolateral approaches to the posterior fossa must be located below and behind the asterion.
García Pérez, David;
Nova tellus , 2008,
Abstract: this paper contains a thematic comparison between the grecoroman mythologem of asterion-labyrinthus and his thematization in jorge luis borges' tale "the house of asterion" and in the kings, a dramatic poem by julio cortázar. my scope is to perform an analysis of the resemantized components around the shaping of the figure of the minotaur with a comparative approach: it deals then with the thematization of this personage as an antagonist in the grecoroman mythologem looking to this configuration as a hero, philosopher and poet in the remakings by the above mentioned argentinean writers.

Acta literaria , 2010, DOI: 10.4067/S0717-68482010000200006
Abstract: when borges let us know the humanity of the murderer who lived in his casa de asterión, our initial sorrow became soon in tragic identity. the works we analyse here show us how poets of nowadays are well conscious of this fact and share the same fear as us. perhaps this is the reason why in their poetry they prefer to focus on the last monster's thoughts before his death. in this way, they not only pay their tribute to borges but also remind us how we, modern men, will beg for our death too.
Waiting for Redemption in The House of Asterion: A Stylistic Analysis  [PDF]
Martin Tilney
Open Journal of Modern Linguistics (OJML) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/ojml.2012.22007
Abstract: The House of Asterion is a short story by Jorge Luis Borges that retells the classical myth of the Cretan Minotaur from an alternate perspective. The House of Asterion features the Minotaur, aka Asterion, who waits for “redemption” in his labyrinth. Many literary critics have suggested that the Borgesian labyrinth is a metaphor for human existence and the universe itself. Others have correctly interpreted Asterion’s ironic death at the hands of Theseus as his eagerly awaited redemption. Borges’ subversion of the reader’s expectations becomes the departure point for a systemic functional stylistic analysis of the story in one of its English translations, revealing how deeper-level meanings in the text are construed through its lexicogrammatical structure. A systemic functional stylistic reading suggests that on a higher level of reality, Asterion’s redemption is not only the freedom that death affords, but also a transformation that transcends his fictional universe. Asterion’s twofold redemption is brought about not only by the archetypal hero Theseus but also by the reader, who through the process of reading enables Asterion’s emancipation from the labyrinth.
The Minotaur in its labyrinth. [Spanish]
Yidy Páez Casadiegos
Eidos , 2006,
Abstract: This paper intends a hermeneutical approach of the Minotaur myth and its labyrinth using as reading code a classification of space / content which appears in the two core images of a hidden – mysterious dwell and its also strange and feared inhabitant. Four universal aspects of human existence can be read upon using this binary taxon: mind (the unconscious), cognition and its objects, being as an instance of selfhood, and power with all its objects. All of which appear in a metaphorical relation with the code’s two operating elements: labyrinth (a bordering space between the visible – apparent, known, controlled – and the invisible – hidden, unknown, subject to other “rules”), and the Minotaur (as a content of the “labyrinthical” spatiality of conscience, knowledge, being and power).
Incidence of Sutural Bones at Asterion in Adults Indians Skulls Incidencia de Huesos Suturales en el Asterion de Cráneos Indios Adultos

Abstract: Asterion is the point of sutural confluence observed in normal lateralis of the skull where parietal, temporal and occipital bone meet. Present study was carried out in the Department of Anatomy, CSM Medical University, Lucknow using fifty five dry human skulls to analyse the incidence of sutural bones at the asterion and its variation. At the asterion, sutural morphology was classified into two types: Type I- Where a sutural bone was present and Type II- Where a sutural bone was absent. Among 27 female skulls, percentage of Type I Asterion was found to be 14.81 and Type II contributed to 85.19%. 17.86 % asterion were classified as Type I and 82.14% as Type II in male skulls. The examination of 55 skulls (male and female together) brought out 16.36% Type I and 83.64% Type II asterions. Sutural morphology of asterion is essential in surgical approaches to posterior cranial fossa. Presence of sutural bones at asterion may complicate the surgical orientation. Therefore, the study has been carried out to alert the neurosurgeons. This work may also be useful to anthropologists and forensic science experts in having preliminary idea about male or female skull.
