Abstract: [english] Introduction: In the pre-clinical phase of the study of dentistry at the University of Greifswald, the course “Early Patient Contact (EPC)” is conducted within the framework of Community Medicine/Dentistry. The course is based on three pillars: the patient visiting program, special problem-oriented seminars, and communication training for doctors. The essential goal consists of providing students with real patient contact right at the beginning of their study of dentistry, thus making the study of dentistry patient-based very early on. Students are trained in taking comprehensive anamneses and recording clinical findings.Methods: Within the framework of the dental preliminary exams, the course is evaluated using an OSCE on a standardized patient. Furthermore, the added value of an additional training unit (conducting anamnesis and clinical examination) in preparation for the OSCE was evaluated. The exam results of a group without training (control group) were compared with those of a group with training (intervention group).Results: The intervention group performed significantly better than the control on the following items: the total number of points achieved on the OSCE early patient contact, and in the most important points of the anamnesis and clinical examination. In addition, the intervention group tended to score higher in terms of the item “oral health status”.Conclusion: The present study showed a positive effect of an additional training unit on students’ performance in the OSCE. Taking the limitations of the study and the results of a literature review into account, we recommend conducting such training as preparation for the OSCE. [german] Einleitung: An der Universit t Greifswald wird im vorklinischen Abschnitt des Studienganges der Zahnmedizin im Rahmen der Community Medicine/Dentistry der Kurs Der Frühe Patientenkontakt (FPK)“ durchgeführt. Der Kurs basiert auf drei Prinzipien: dem Patientenbesuchsprogramm, speziellen problemorientierten Seminaren und dem rztlichen Kommunikationstraining. Die wesentliche Zielstellung besteht darin, den Studierenden bereits zu Beginn des Zahnmedizinstudiums einen realen Patientenkontakt zu erm glichen und somit das Studium frühzeitig patientennah zu gestalten. Abstract: Photography offers precious support in all areas of medicine and dentistry. Usage of photography in dentistry is an integral part of numerous diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and an important document of progression and outcome of subscribed therapy. Various types of cameras are available for intraoral and extraoral photography. Market offers different kinds of photographic equipment to dental practitioners such as cameras with films (Single Lens Reflex) SLR, digital SLR (DSLR) and compact digital cameras. However, majority of analyses emphasize advantages and relevancy of digital cameras, especially in taking macro photographs in dentistry. Introduction of digital cameras in dental practice is an important step toward the future. The aim of this study was to point out the importance of photography in dentistry, demonstrate basic technology of contemporary cameras and to analyze advantages and disadvantages of available cameras.

Abstract: Background: Environmental reporting is increasingly important for medical facilities. Currently, hospitals can determine the content of an environmental report as they see fit. Objective: To examine the utility and scope of an employee survey as an instrument for the preparation of an environmental report at the University Hospital Greifswald. Method: For this purpose a questionnaire was developed with a focus on environmental behaviour and the significance attached to the protection of the environment. Results: The employees of the University Medicine Greifswald attach an unexpectedly high significance to the protection of the environment. Based on this finding, this potential should be used to promote the optimal implementation of ecological-economic behaviour within the University Medicine. Conclusion: An employee survey is a useful instrument in the preparation of an environmental report.

Abstract: Background and Aims: There are several risk factors in dentistry professional environment. Carelessness about occupational health regulation endangers dentist's life. Erconomics in dentistry is a scientific approach which introduces the latest ergonomic principles in dental profession. It discusses about physical and mental stresses. Ergonomic programs eliminate dentist physical and mental challenges and provide practical solution to establish efficient and comforting environment. Materials and Methods: This study reviewed the role and effectiveness of Ergonomics in dental profession. We used related journals, books and ergonomics websites to write this article. Conclusion: Many of researchers believe that awkward body posture and low movement are the sources of occupational disorders. Therefore, knowledge of ergonomics risk factors in dental office design is very important. Dentist's body posture and dental equipment evaluations are important factors in dental ergonomics. The most logical approach to design dental equipment for utilizing ergonomics principles is consideration of the dentist posture and type of movements and activities. In conclusion, dentists should be informed about dental ergonomics regulation and its different aspects. Furthermore, academic developments and research projects can be useful in this area.

Abstract: The uses of Lasers in dentistry have revolutionized several areas of treatment in the last three & a half decades of the 20th century. Initially it was used for ablating the hard tissues for acid etch treatment. Later Lasers were used for cutting, coagulation & cauterization of the soft tissues. It is also been used for the diagnosis of carious lesions& to test pulp vitality with Doppler. There are more than 40 uses for Laser. Initially Lasers were very expensive, but now they have become much cheaper. Portable models are available which have increased its versatility. Lasers will be the main weapon in the armamentarium of the dental surgeons.

Abstract: About 80% of US adults have some form of dental disease. There are a variety of new dental products available, ranging from implants to oral hygiene products that rely on nanoscale properties. Here, the application of AFM (Atomic Force Microscopy) and optical interferometry to a range of dentistry issues, including characterization of dental enamel, oral bacteria, biofilms and the role of surface proteins in biochemical and nanomechanical properties of bacterial adhesins, is reviewed. We also include studies of new products blocking dentine tubules to alleviate hypersensitivity; antimicrobial effects of mouthwash and characterizing nanoparticle coated dental implants. An outlook on future “nanodentistry” developments such as saliva exosomes based diagnostics, designing biocompatible, antimicrobial dental implants and personalized dental healthcare is presented.

Abstract: Dentistry has entered an exciting era of high technology. Lasers provide new powerful tools that is characterized by a bloodless field and applied in most branches of dentistry. There are many types of lasers, such as Gas laser, Chemical laser, Dye laser, Metal-vapor laser, Solid-state laser and Semiconductor laser. Each laser type has its own unique features, advantages and disadvantages. Abstract: With the advancements in the field of dentistry, new treatment protocols are budding day by day to combat human ailments in a much natural better and simpler way. One such advancement is the application of ozone in dentistry. Ozone is a natural element protects us from ultraviolet rays. It has several properties including analgesics, immunostimulant and antimicrobial properties. Abstract: 建立了Greifswald磁螺菌(Magnetospirillumgryphiswaldense)在固氮条件下(微好氧和限铵)的深层培养技术.在以乳酸钠为碳源的限氮培养基中,通入含0.4%~0.8%O2的氮气,pH和温度分别控制在7.2和30℃,经3次补料,培养21h细胞密度A600nm可达1.3,固氮活性为217nmol/h.氧和铵对固氮活性有明显的抑制作用,说明该菌具有固氮酶合成后的活性调节系统.
