Abstract: Archaeological site Felix Romuliana is located in Eastern Serbia, on the 10th kilometer of Boljevac - Zajecar road. It represents the remains of the Roman emperor Gaius Valerius Maximian Gallery’s palace. The value and importance of this unique monument, which dates from the late Roman period, are shown by the fact that in 2007. it was included in the UNESCO list of world cultural heritage. This paper introduces touristic - geographic location of Felix Romuliana, its artistic value, history and progress of archeological research as well as protection measures and site management system. The second part consist the tourist valorization results, made by Hilari du Cros model. Aim of the article is to determine the manner in which it is possible to make a presentation of cultural and historic values of the potential tourists (both domestic and foreign) and to point out the weaknesses and the opportunities in the tourist valorization. Finally, it can be concluded that the strategy for tourism development in this area should be based on the promotion of cultural tourism, which would be the holder of the Gamzigrad archeological complex.

Christian sacred architecture of late antique Romuliana (IV-VII c.): Desacralization of an imperial memorial palace  [PDF]

Zograf , 2011, DOI: 10.2298/zog1135027s
Abstract: At the very end of the third century AD, the emperor Galerius (293-311) built a memorial complex Felix Romuliana in order to commemorate the place of his birth and he dedicated it to his mother Romula. Shortly after his death in Serdica in 311, he was buried in the mausoleum built on the hill Magura, at about 1 km distance from his memorial palace. It was also the place of his consecration and apotheosis. Considering the fact that the imperial cult was the most prominent and the most widespread cult in the Roman Empire, the imperial palace was treated as the focus of the cultic activities. By the end of the fourth century Romuliana lost its strictly memorial character and became, most probably, a refugee for the local inhabitants trying to find a place safe from the attacks of the tribes living north of the limes. At the same time the first church was built. According to the up to date information from the archeological investigations that are still carried on the site, eight churches were discovered in or near the fortress of Romuliana, five of which inside the fortified walls. Unfortunately, four of them were only partially discovered and are still waiting to be fully published. The remaining four were created by the transformation of the original rooms of the imperial residence, so called Palace I. The oldest church, dated to the end of fourth or the very beginning of the fifth century, is the three-aisled Basilica I embedded into the room D, the old aula palatina of the original Palace I. Although the original room had an apse on its eastern end, the builders of the basilica built new apse on the distance of 13.10 m west of the original apse, maybe deliberately neglecting the old one as the focus of the cult of the Roman emperor. The transformation of the aula palatina into the Christian church marked the beginning of the process of desacralization of the tetrarchic imperial palace. Basilica I was probably used until the sixth century, when the new church was raised on the same spot. In the second half of the fifth century, room R of the Palace I was transformed into the small single-nave church by building the new apse on its eastern end. It was connected with the small room M, which was transformed into the baptistery by building the small cross-shaped piscina. By the beginning of the sixth century the small room M was added an apse in the east, so it was also transformed into the church. Basilica I was destroyed and the new church was built in the same place most probably by the middle of the sixth century, presumably at the time of the restoratio

Advances in Historical Studies (AHS) , 2019, DOI: 10.4236/ahs.2019.83009
Abstract: The remains of ball bearing from the Roman imperial ships of Nemi lake are investigated to understand their mechanical design and to speculate on the machines they were used in. The imperial ships are dated at first century A.D. and they were digged out from the lake with several significant remains in titanic operations in 1930s. Today the bronze remains of the ball bearings can give new insights of the ancient Roman technology with renewed considerations and analysis both from historical and technical viewpoints as per their construction and use.

Glasnik Srpskog Geografskog Dru?tva , 2010, DOI: 10.2298/gsgd1003089c
Abstract: According to its physical-geographical and socio-economical characteristics, the municipality of Negotin belongs to the territories with favorable tourist potentials. In order to scientifically validate this fact, in this paper tourist valorization has been performed using quantitative-qualitative method, giving attractiveness ranking values, based on which conclusions have been made on the direction and forms of tourist potential. The results obtained from tourist valorization have shown that the hydrographic potential and fauna are rated as good (3), and have the highest general tourist value among natural resources. General values are graded as satisfactory (1.8) and the climate is graded as unsatisfactory (1.2). Valorization of anthropogenic characteristics gave the maximal general value (4) to cultural-historical objects including sacral objects - monasteries and churches and the Rajac pimnice. The Rajac pimnice have an especially high value, as they represent, for us, a unique value that can be considered in diverse ways and adjusted to tourist utilization. Based on the performed tourist valorization it can be noted that the general tourist value of the municipality of Negotin is of regional ranking, though anthropogenic potentials are of national ranking and part of them, as emphasized, are objects that are internationally important. The basic shortcoming is the low road quality leading to places of important tourist value, even though the road network is favorable, and there are also many weaknesses in the receptive tourist base. Improvement of these shortcomings would create a good image of the municipality of Negotin in continental tourism of the Republic of Serbia.

ENGLISH: The application of a contextual appraisal method to the analysis of funerary expense in early imperial Roman Ampurias, has shown the enormous utility of this tool for the economic and social reconstruction of the history of this city. Various economic fluctuations have been documented in the record of grave goods, from the time of Augustus to the first half of the second century AD, confirming information already indicated by literary sources and shedding more light on the nature of these changes. Economic crises were identified, including some as significant as those experienced during the Tiberius period, as well as currency fluctuations. This serves to demonstrate the extraordinary importance of the contextual approach to expand not only our knowledge of Roman society, but also of many other civilizations and peoples of antiquity.

The aim of this article is to characterize the first imperial roman power and the different ways in which subjectivity turns out to be during the princedom. Elements of continuity and rupture in political thought and subjectivity will also be researched. Key texts to understand such institutional and intellectual break are to be found in the writings of the last ‘convinced’ republican thinkers as well as in a first Roman Empire political literature which looks to their republican past with nostalgia and veneration

Lanx , 2012, DOI: 10.6092/2035-4797/2412
Abstract: This contribution wants to reconsider the interpretation of the roman building in Via Brisa, one of the sectors of the Imperial palace in Milan, dated between the end of the IV and the V century A.D. A review on the past studies and some observations about the internal circulation will give the opportunity to riconsiderate the general interpretation of the entire structure, which can be interpreted as a luxurius sector belonging to the Imperial palace of Milan, organized in “apartments” and used for high-reception functions.
