Abstract: the goal of this work was to provide a detailed description of prosopis flexuosa dc. (algarrobo dulce), a characteristic tree of the argentine arid regions. to do so we consulted the classic literature about this species as well as the last published papers in national and international journals. the obtained information comprises the following subjects: description of the species, geographic distribution, habitat and communities, growth habit and morphology, cytogenetic characteristics, growth and phenology, ecophysiology and biological interactions. the work ends with the relation of the woods inhabitants and the algarrobo, through the management of the prosopis woods and the ethnobotanic uses that this species has afforded since prehispanic times.

Abstract: El objetivo de este trabajo fue elaborar una descripción detallada de Prosopis flexuosa DC. (algarrobo dulce), árbol característico de las regiones áridas argentinas. Para su elaboración se consultaron trabajos clásicos sobre esta especie como así también las últimas investigaciones publicadas tanto en artículos nacionales como internacionales. La información obtenida abarca los siguientes temas: descripción de la especie, distribución geográfica, hábitat y comunidades, hábito de crecimiento y morfología, características citogenéticas, crecimiento y fenología, ecofisiología e interacciones biológicas. Este trabajo finaliza con la relación entre los pobladores que habitan los bosques y el algarrobo, por medio del manejo de bosques de Prosopis y los usos etnobotánicos que brinda esta especie desde épocas prehispánicas. Abstract: La recomendación de normas de manejo que regulen el uso de los recursos forestales debe estar basada en el conocimiento de la estructura y dinámica de los mismos. El objetivo de este trabajo fue conocer la estructura poblacional de las principales unidades boscosas del bosque de Prosopis flexuosa del noreste de Mendoza, sus condiciones sanitarias y su potencial productivo. Se muestrearon un total de 1.471 algarrobos en las cuatro unidades boscosas más representativas. La densidad total de algarrobos fue la siguiente: bosque semicerrado de P. flexuosa con Atriplex lampa y Lycium tenuispinosum en valles intermédanos (Bosque 1): 181 árboles ha-1, bosque abierto de P. flexuosa con Trichomaria usillo y Suaeda divaricata en ondulaciones (Bosque 2): 155 árboles ha-1, bosque abierto de P. flexuosa con T. usillo (Bosque 3): 233 árboles ha-1 y bosque abierto de P. flexuosa con A. lampa en ondulaciones suaves (Bosque 4): 215 árboles ha-1. El análisis de componentes principales de la estructura diamétrica agrupó los sitios relevados en las distintas unidades boscosas según la proporción de árboles de diámetro basal mayor a 25 cm. Los sitios del Bosque 1 (mayor proporción de árboles grandes), se separaron de los sitios con mayor proporción árboles peque os (bosques 2 y 4). Debido al hábito de crecimiento de los algarrobos, la cantidad de productos maderables de estos bosques es baja. Además, P. flexuosa presenta en el área un porcentaje alto de individuos con más de dos fustes, la forma en muchos casos es decumbente y la altura de los fustes es menor a un metro. Por lo tanto, el potencial forestal del bosque es bajo y el posible aprovechamiento debería realizarse a escala local, considerando la inclusión de otras actividades complementarias en zonas establecidas para tal fin The recommendation of management rules that regulate the use of forest resources must be based on the knowledge of the structure and dynamics of forests. Abstract: the recommendation of management rules that regulate the use of forest resources must be based on the knowledge of the structure and dynamics of forests. this work allowed to find out about the population structure of the prosopis flexuosa woodlands of the northeast of mendoza, as well as their sanitary conditions and the management potential. a total of 1,471 prosopis individuals were sampled in the four most representative woodlands units. the total prosopis density was as follows: p. flexuosa semi-closed woodland with atriplex lampa and lycium tenuispinosum in valleys in-between dunes (woodland 1): 181 trees ha-1; p. flexuosa open woodland with trichomaria usillo and suaeda divaricata in the undulations (woodland 2): 155 trees ha-1; p. flexuosa open woodland with t. usillo (woodland 3): 233 trees ha-1, and p. flexuosa open woodland with a. lampa in soft undulations (woodland 4): 215 trees ha-1. the principal components analysis on the diametric structure grouped the sites surveyed in the different woodland units as per the proportion of individuals with larger basal diameter. the sites from woodland 1 (larger proportion of big trees), were separated from the sites with a higher proportion of small trees (woodland 2 and 4). due to the prosopis growth habit, the quantity of wood products from these forests is low. besides p. flexuosa presents in the area a high percentage of individuals with more than two stems, the tree shape is generally decumbent and the bole height is less than a meter. therefore, the possible use should be done at local scale, taking into account the inclusion of other complementary activities

Abstract: fabaceae leaves from the floral assemblage of the el morterito formation (upper miocene) from the valle del cajón in catamarca province, argentina, are described. the taxa are assigned to caesalpinoideae: senna cf. bicapsularis (l.) rouxbourgh, senna cf. obtusifolia (l.) irwin and barneby, chamaecrista cf. flexuosa (l) greene; to mimosoideae: mimosa cf. flagellaris, bentham, mimosa sp., prosopis sp. 1; and to papiliodoideae: desmodium cf. ascendens (swart) de candolle, cf. desmodium sp., eriosema sp. and tipuana tipu (bentham) kuntze. these species are compared with those treated in older literature and, also, some taxonomic considerations are made. based on the characters of the most similar living taxa and additional sedimentological, invertebrate and vertebrate fossil data, an open dry environment with xerophytic vegetation is inferred, associated with more humid habitats with riparian forests, characteristic of a warm climate.

Abstract: This article reports the rediscovery of the specie Adesmia bijuga Phil. (Fabaceae), in the coastal zone of the Maule Region (35°29'31" S - 72°22'47" W) in central Chile. The population was found between two Pinus radiata D.Don plantations and species of the sclerophyllous shrub. Its state of conservation is unknown.

Abstract: Se presenta información sobre la autopolinización de Prosopis tamarugo Phil, especie que crece en el desierto de Atacama, en el norte de Chile. Las experiencias se llevaron a cabo en a os consecutivos, embolsando inflorescencias y colectando frutos. Los resultados muestran un cierto grado de autocompatibilidad y de autopolinización de esta especie.
Seed predation in Acacia mearnsii De Wild. (Fabaceae, Mimosoideae).

Abstract: This work aimed to identify the predator insect of seeds of Acacia mearnsii De Wild. (Fabaceae, Mimosoideae) (black wattle), characterizing the damage inflicted and levels of occurrence over the long term. Therefore, biweekly collections of seed pods were taken in the forest of black wattle situated in the municipal district of Minas do Le o, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. It was verified that Stator limbatus (Horn, 1873) (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae, Bruchinae) was responsible for the predation by attacking 44.3% of the collected seeds and consuming 60.4% of the weight of these seeds. The highest incidence of S. limbatus adults occurred in January.

Abstract: Como resultado del estudio químico de las hojas y flores de Mimosa tenuiflora (Willd.) Poir. (Fabaceae-Mimosoideae) se aislaron ocho flavonoides: 6-metoxi-4'-O-metilnaringenina (1), santina (2), 6-metoxinaringenina (3), tenuiflorina A (4), 5, 7, 4 -trihidroxi- 3,6-dimetoxiflavona (5), 6-desmetoxi-4′-O-metilcapilarisina (6), 6- metoxicamperol (7) y tenuiflorina C (8). La actividad antiprotozoaria de los compuestos aislados, así como la de la tenuiflorina B (9) y de la 6-desmetoxicapilarisina (10), aisladas en un estudio previo fue determinada contra trofozoitos de Entamoeba histolytica and Giardia lamblia.
