Abstract: Phytochemical investigation of Anaxagorea dolichocarpa Sprague & Sandwith led to isolation of three azaphenanthrene alkaloids: eupolauramine, sampangine and imbiline 1. Their chemical structures were established on the basis of spectroscopic data from IR, HR-ESI-MS, NMR (including 2D experiments) and comparison with the literature. Sampangine and imbiline 1 are being described in the Anaxagorea genus for the first time. Eupolauramine and sampangine show concentration-dependent antitumoral activity in leukemic cells K562 with IC50 of 18.97 and 10.95 μg/mL, respectively.

Abstract: inojackia dolichocarpa, which had been found in Shimen and Shangzhi County, Hunan Province, is the second category state protected endangered plant in China. In this paper, the status of it in situ conservation is studied including natural environment, the distribution, the size class structure type of its populations, the quantity, destruction, conservation and management. In addition, as a result of a preliminary study on its ex situ conservation in Wuhan Institute of Botany, its propagating methods, biological characteristics, in vitro, potentialities of exploitaiton and utilization and so on are expounded. In the end, some advice on how to conserve the germplasm resourse effectively is given.

Abstract: twenty eight natural populations of trifolium riograndense burkart, an important forage legume from native pastures of the state of rio grande do sul, brazil, were evaluated for genetic diversity with eight simple sequences repeats (ssr) markers. chromosome numbers were also determined. the eight markers were polymorphic, with 35 alleles and an average of 4.37 alleles per locus, and polymorphism information content (pic) between 0.48 and 0.80. group analysis based on jaccard′s similarity coefficient separated the 28 accessions in nine groups, with an average genetic similarity of 0.44, indicating a high genetic variability among the populations. no evident relation between genetic distance and geographical origin was detected. the chromosome number of 2n=2x=16 was found in all populations, indicating lack of intraspecific variability for chromosome number in the species. this information on diversity can be used in conservation strategies as well as in genetic breeding programs of this species.

Abstract: ipomoea imperati (vahl) griseb., convolvulaceae, is used in folk medicine for the treatment of inflammation, swelling and wounds, as well as to treat pains after childbirth and for stomach problems. administration of ethanol extract, lipid and aqueous fraction of i. imperati(300, 100 and 200 mg/kg) significantly inhibited the abdominal constriction in mice induced by acetic acid; increased the sleeping time evoked by pentobarbital sodium and showed a significant activity by inhibiting formalin-induced paw edema in mice. the same dose of i. imperatialso raised the pain of mice in the hot-plate test and increased the latency at all observation times. the pre-treatment of the animals with naloxone (5 mg/kg, i.p.) suggested the participation of the opioid system in the antinociceptive effect of ipomoea imperati.

Abstract: Castela coccinea Griseb es un árbol de peque o porte que pertenece a la familia Simaroubaceae. En el presente trabajo los extractos de esta planta muestran una fuerte actividad in vitro contra epimastigotes de Trypanosoma cruzi. El extracto diclorometánico de madera es el que presenta mayor efecto tripanocida. Una fracción de este extracto, purificada por cromatografía en columna, está enriquecida en cumarinas, ácidos fenólicos y alcaloides. Esta fracción es aún más activa con una CI50 =15 mg/mL. Nuestros resultados sugieren que los alcaloides son los responsables de esta actividad. Más aún, se ha detectado la presencia del grupo 8-amino-6-metoxiquinolina por cromatografía gaseosa acoplada a un espectrómetro de masa, pero todavía la molécula entera no ha sido identificada. Por otro lado, todos los extractos mostraron actividad citotóxica contra la línea celular humana K-562, a altas concentraciones. Sin embargo, el índice de selectividad para el extracto diclorometánico de la madera es de 7.5.

Abstract: Se presenta la descripción e ilustraciones de Setaria magna Griseb. (Poaceae), nuevo reporte para Venezuela. Esta especie había sido colectada en los estados Aragua, Carabobo, Miranda y Sucre,casi siempre alrededor de lagos. Esta contribución representa un adelanto al estudio taxonómico del género Setaria en Venezuela que está realizando el autor. ABSTRACT Setaria magna Griseb. Abstract: the objective of this research was to study the electrical conductivity test to evaluate the physiological quality of albizia hassleri (chod) burkart. seeds. sixteen mother tree plants were used and the conductivity test was performed at 25 oc with the use of 75 ml of distilled water in periods of 2, 4, 6, 12, 24, 48, 72, 96 and 120 hours, with five replications of 20 seeds. the germination test was carried out at 25 oc, and the final count was made on the 19th day. a completely randomized experimental design was used and the data were submitted to the variance analysis and the scott-knott test at 5% of probability to compare the mother tree means. besides, correlations were performed between the electrical conductivity results and the germination percentage and normal seedlings and also the regression between both variables. a high variability was verified among the mother trees, both in the germination and in the electrical conductivity test. the results showed low correlation between the germination percentage and electrical conductivity. the regression between the electrical conductivity and germination presented a low determination coefficient. these data demonstrated that the electrical conductivity test was not adequate to discriminate the physiological seed quality of a. hasslerii obtained from different mother trees.

Abstract: The paper presents current distribution of Orobanche bartlingii Griseb. in Poland, including the new localities which were found in Podzamcze (Kraków-Cz stochowa Upland) and Cz stków Stary (Kielce Upland). Taxonomical position as well as some diagnostic features that differ O. bartlingii from O. alsatica are presented. Habitat requirements and plant communities in which the species was recorded are discussed.
