Die meting van die invloed van organisasiegrootte op bruin werkers se houdings en gedrag  [cached]

Abstract: A survey of the literature indicates inconsistencies regarding the influence of size of organizations on variables such as efficiency of personnel selection systems, training, labour turnover, job absenteeism, job efficiency and so forth. In the Western Cape ten "large" factories were selected (number of Coloured workers 300 or more) and compared with 17 "small" factories (number of Coloured workers less than 50). By means of t-tests, statistical significant differences were found in respect of the following variables on which large organizations appeared more favourable: 1) more selection techniques are used; 2) selection programmes are more effective; 3) more training techniques are used; 4) training programmes are more effective; 5) workers are more satisfied; 6) the average job adjustment for workers are higher, and 7) workers are more satisfied with their salaries or wages. However, no significant differences were found in respect of labour turnover, absenteeism and job needs. Opsomming 'n Oorsig van die literatuur dui daarop dat bevindinge onkonsekwent is wat betref die invloed van die grootte van organisasies op veranderlikes soos die doeltreffendheid van personeel-keuringstelsels, opleiding, arbeidsomset, werkafwesigheid, werkdoeltreffendheid en so meer. In Wes-Kaapland is tien "groot" fabrieke geselekteer (aantal bruin werkers 300 of meer) en vergelyk met 17 "klein" fabrieke (aantal bruin werkers minder as 50). Met behulp van t-toetse is statisties beduidende verskille gevind ten opsigte van die volgende veranderlikes waarvolgens groot organisasies meer gunstig vertoon: 1) meer keuringstegnieke word gebruik; 2) die doeltreffendheid van die keurings-programme is ho r; 3) meer opleidingstegnieke word gebruik; 4) opleidingsprogramme is meer doeltreffend; 5) werkers is meer tevrede; 6) werkers se gemiddelde beroepsaanpassing is beter, en 7) werkers is meer tevrede met hul salarisse of lone. Geen betekenisvolle verskille is egter gevind ten opsigte van arbeidsomset, werkafwesigheid en werkbehoeftes nie.

Abstract: ‘n Opname oor houdings teenoor jag onder die ekonomies aktiewe publiek in Port Elizabeth is gedurende 2009 gedoen. Die doel van die opname was om faktore wat die publiek se houding teenoor jag be nvloed, te identifiseer en te ondersoek. Jag vorm ‘n noodsaaklike deel van bewaring en wildbestuur op wildplase. Negatiewe houdings teenoor jag onder die publiek het potensieel ‘n sosiale bedreiging vir die jagbedryf geword, wat die doeltreffende bewaring en bestuur van wild op wildplase bedreig. Hierdie sosiale bedreiging is by wyse van ‘n statisties verteenwoordigende opname onder die ekonomies aktiewe publiek in Port Elizabeth ondersoek. Die data is met behulp van self-geadministreerde vraelyste ingesamel en 384 vraelyste is voltooi. Verskeie faktore wat die publiek se houding teenoor jag be nvloed,is ge dentifiseer. Daar is bevind dat die mate waartoe ‘n persoon aan jag blootgestel is, asook hul sosiale verbintenisse ‘n beduidende invloed op houdings teenoor jag het. Onkunde oor jag belemmer ‘n persoon se vermo om ‘n akkurate begrip van jag te vorm en het negatiewe houdings teenoor jag tot gevolg. Die opvatting dat jag nie ‘n belangrike deel van wildbestuur vorm nie, asook die opvatting dat jag wild in gevaar stel, is grootliks vir negatiewe houdings oor jag verantwoordelik. Wanpersepsies oor jag kan reggestel word deur die publiek oor wild en die belangrikheid van jag in die bestuur van wild op te voed. Wanpersepsies oor jag kan verder aangespreek word deur die publiek daarvan te oortuig dat die primêre rede waarom daar gejag word op ekologiese oorwegings en wildbestuur berus. A survey on attitudes towards hunting was conducted amongst the economically active public in Port Elizabeth during 2009. The aim was to identify and investigate factors influencing public attitudes towards hunting. Hunting has become an essential part of conservation and wildlife management on game farms. Negative attitudes towards hunting within the larger society have become a threat to the hunting industry, which in turn may jeopardise conservation and the effective management of game. This social threat was investigated by conducting a survey amongst a statistically representative sample of the economically active public in Port Elizabeth. Abstract: Directives for the development of a 4-dimensional theory of human behaviour are formulated and discussed. The 3 spatial dimensions length, height and depth, and time are used as points of departure from which psychic analogues are defined as fundamental constructs of human behaviour. The psychological sphere described by these 3 psychic dimensions together with orientation towards time are then used as a basis of typifying and classifying human behaviour. Possibilities for the further development and validation of the theory as well as some of its practical applications are discussed. Opsomming Riglyne vir die ontwikkeling van 'n 4-dimensionele teorie van menslike gedrag word geformuleer en bespreek. Die 3 ruimtelike dimensies naamlik hoogte, breedte en diepte en tyd word as vertrekpunt geneem en die psigiese analo daarvan word as fundamentele konstrukte van menslike gedrag geformuleer en logies uitgebou. Die psigologiese ruimte (sfeer) wat deur die 3 psigiese dimensies (asse) beskryf word en die mens se tydori ntasie word as basis gebruik vir die tipering en klassifisering van menslike gedrag. Enkele praktiese aanwendingsmoontlikhede en riglyne vir die verdere ontwikkeling en validering van die teorie word aan die hand gedoen.

Abstract: Hierdie artikel is gebaseer op empiriese navorsing om die persepsies en houdings van gelowige, jonggetroude egpare oor seksuele intimiteit in die huwelik na te vors. Daar is gefokus op hoe die egpare die verhouding sien waarbinne seksuele intimiteit geniet en beleef mag word; wat na hulle mening die man en vrou se plig is rakende die seksuele; wat hulle persepsies is oor die vryheid wat seksuele intimiteit binne die huwelik bied, en wat eksklusiwiteit ten opsigte van seksuele intimiteit binne die huwelik vir elkeen van hulle beteken. ’n Kwalitatiewe navorsingsontwerp is gebruik en sewe gelowige egpare wat minder as twee jaar getroud was (N = 11), het aan die navorsing deelgeneem. Die navorsingsdata is uit ’n kort vraelys verkry en deur semigestruktureerde onderhoude wat met sommige van die deelnemers gevoer is. ’n Ryke oes van data is verkry en ’n hele aantal temas is identifiseer. Hierdie temas sluit goed aan by die basisteoretiese en metateoretiese perspektiewe wat as onderbou vir hierdie navorsing gedien het. The perceptions and attitudes of religious newlywedded couples regarding sexual intimacy in the marriage. This article is based on empirical research done to explore the perceptions and attitudes of religious newlywedded couples regarding sexual intimacy in the marriage. The research focused on how the couples regard a relationship in which sexual intimacy can be enjoyed and experienced; what, in their opinion, the husband and the wife’s responsibilities are towards each other regarding sex; what their perceptions are about the freedom that sexual intimacy offers in marriage, and what marital exclusivity regarding sexual intimacy means to each of the participants. A qualitative research design was used and seven religious couples that were married less than two years (N = 11) participated in this research. The research data was obtained by using a short questionnaire and semi-structured interviews which were conducted with some of the participants. Rich data was obtained and many themes were identified. These themes correspond well with the basic-theoretical and meta-theoretical perspectives that served as underpinning for the research.
Die houdings van manlike bestuurders teenoor die vordering van vroue binne die bedryfskonteks: 'n Kultureel vergelykende studie

Abstract: The attitude of male managers toward the advancement of women in the industrial context: A compantive cultural study. The main aim of this study was to determine the attitudes of male managers towards the advancement of women coming from the four cultural groups - white, black. Coloured and Indian, as well as women in general, within the business context. Five independent questionnaires were developed for this purpose. In general, it was found that black male managers were more positive in their attitudes towards women, than white male managers. In comparing the attitudes of male managers towards women coming from the various cultural groups, it appeared that white male managers exhibited a particular hierarchical order of preferences/ whilst black male managers only indicated differences regarding whites versus Coloureds, and Indians versus Coloureds. Opsomming Die hoofdoelstelling van hierdie studie was om die houdings van manlike bestuurders jeens die vordering van vroue komende uit die vier kultuurgroepe - blank, swart, Kleurling en Indi r, asook vroue in die algemeen/ binne die bedryfskonteks te bepaal. Vyf onafhanklike meetinstrumente is vir hierdie doel ontwikkel. Daar is bevind dat anderskleurige manlike bestuurders in die algemeen 'n gunstiger houdmg jeens vroue huldig as blanke manlike bestuurders. Uit 'n vergelyking van die houdings van manlike bestuurders jeens vroue komende uit die verskillende kultuurgroepe, blyk dit dat daar 'n bepaalde hi rargiese orde van voorkeur onder blanke manlike bestuurders is, terwyl anderskleurige manlike bestuurders slegs verskille ten opsigte van blanke- teenoor Kleurling- en Indi r- teenoor Kleurlinggroepe aandui.
Die pastorale terapeut as begeleier van ’n persoon met seksueel afwykende gedrag: ’n Hermeneutiese hoek

Abstract: Voordat ’n pastorale terapeut ’n persoon met seksueel afwykende gedrag in die vorm van pedofilie, pastoraal bedien, is daar merkers wat in gedagte gehou moet word ten opsigte van die posisionering van die pastorale terapeut. Daar word aangeneem dat pedofilie nie genees kan word nie, maar slegs beheer en bestuur kan word. Pedofilie is nie net ’n saak vir ander wetenskappe nie, maar beslis ook ’n geestelike saak. Die persoon wat kinders molesteer, beleef dikwels ’n geestelike vakuum. As gevolg hiervan is sy geestelike dimensie remmend en destruktief. ’n Pastorale hermeneutiek is hier uiters belangrik. Dit beteken dat die pastorale terapeut die taak het om God se teenwoordigheid en verhaal vir die persoon met afwykende seksualiteit te vertolk, sodat sy behoeftes, lewenservaringe en nood in die lig van God se liefde en genade in sy lewe sal sin maak. Die pastorale terapeut kan die deelnemer help om te ko-konstrueer sonder om deskundige kennis op hom af te dwing. ’n Pastoraal-terapeutiese vertrouensverhouding en onvoorwaardelike aanvaarding moet sigbaar wees om die belangrikste medium van verandering en genesing te bewerkstellig. Wanneer die pastorale terapeut in verbondenheid met Christus self tot nederige diensbaarheid en medemenslikheid gesuiwer word, kom ’n ware pastoraal-terapeutiese verhouding van vertroue en onvoorwaardelike aanvaarding tot stand. Die pastorale terapeut behoort eers sy of haar eie vertrekpunte rakende pedofilie uit te klaar. Hy of sy sal met sy of haar eie seksualiteit, asook die van ander, gemaklik moet wees. Hierdie navorsing kan pastorale terapeute aanmoedig om ’n bydrae te lewer in die bemagtiging van die pedoseksuele persoon op geestelike gebied en sodoende ’n bydrae tot ’n veiliger gemeenskap lewer. Before a pastoral therapist can counsel a person who displays sexually deviant behaviour in the form of paedophilia, there are certain markers pertaining to the therapist’s own positioning that must be observed. It is generally accepted that paedophilia cannot be cured, only controlled and managed. However, paedophilia is not only an issue to be studied by other sciences, it is also a spiritual matter. The person who molests children often harbours a spiritual vacuum within him- or herself. Elements of effective nutrition education for adults with Diabetes mellitus in resource poor settings: A review

Abstract: This review article highlights the key factors that need consideration in planning an effective nutrition education programme for adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus in resource-poor settings. Type 2 diabetes is increasing to epidemic levels globally. Low socio-economic status is associated with poorer health outcomes and a higher economic burden. Individuals with diabetes cite dietary adherence as the most diffi cult self-care area. Effective nutrition education achieves the desired goals and outcomes, which include appropriate change in dietary behaviour, improved glycaemic control, plasma lipid levels, blood pressure and body weight, as well as improved potential mediators (knowledge, skills and attitudes). Elements that contribute to a successful nutrition education programme include interventions tailored to the needs, abilities and socio-cultural context of the target group, the active involvement of the patient, a behaviour-focused approach based on appropriate theory, suitable delivery methods and individual/group approaches. Adequate contact time with an educator (> 10 hours), the educator’s competence, provision of social support and follow-up intervention are also crucial. Effectively educating diabetic individuals from resource-poor settings in nutrition is a challenging task. It needs innovative and skilled educators who are sensitive to the unique needs of the target group and who use appropriate approaches to address these needs. Hierdie artikel beklemtoon die sleutelfaktore wat in oorweging geneem moet word wanneer 'n effektiewe voedingsopleidingprogram vir volwassenes met tipe 2-diabetes uit hulpbron-arm agtergronde beplan word. Tipe 2-diabetes is besig om globaal tot epidemiese vlakke toe te neem. Lae sosio-ekonomiese status word geassosieer met swakker gesondheidsresultate en 'n ho r ekonomiese las. Dieetnakoming word deur persone met diabetes as die moeilikste selfversorgingsgebied uitgewys. Doeltreffende voedingsopleiding bereik die gewenste doelwitte en resultate wat toepaslike veranderings in dieetgedrag, verbeterde glisemiese beheer, verbeterde bloedlipiede, bloeddruk en liggaams-gewig, en verbeterde potensi le bemiddelaars (kennis, vaardighede en houdings), insluit. Elemente wat tot 'n suksesvolle voedingsopleidingprogram bydra, sluit ingrypings in wat geskoei is op die behoeftes, vaardighede en sosiaal-kulturele konteks van die teikengroep, aktiewe betrekking van die pasient, gebruik van 'n benadering wat ingestel is op gedrag en gegrond is op toepaslike teorie, toepaslike metodes van afl ewering en individuele/groepbenaderings, geskikte duur en kontaktyd (> 10 uur), een wat vir sosiale ondersteuning en opvolgintervensie sorg, en deur 'n bedrewe verskaffer bemiddel word. Om diabetiese individue uit hulpbron-arm agtergronde op te lei in voeding is 'n uitdagende taak wat vindingryke en bedrewe opvoeders verg. Abstract: Young people are vulnerable to risky behaviors that cause major health problems such as sexual behaviour resulting in early, unplanned pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). ABSTRAK Die jeug is besonder kwesbaar as gevolg van riskante gedrag wat groot gesondheidsprobleme soos seksuele gedrag veroorsaak wat tot seksueel oordraagbare siektes en VIGS mag lei. Hierdie studie is gedoen om die faktore wat ’n impak het op die gebruik van voorbehoedmiddels en dienste hiervoor vir jeugdiges in Noord-Tshwane te identifiseer en te beskryf.
Organizational behaviour management: A functional analysis of productivity  [cached]

Abstract: Organizational Behaviour Management (OBM) represents a new perspective on productivity. In place of addressing "attitudes and motivational drives", OBM concentrates on the control of on-task behaviour. The 3-term contingency of antecedent, behaviour and consequence, or the functional analysis of behaviour as it is known in OBM, provides a delineation of how behaviour is evoked and what maintains or reinforces it. This orientation to productivity requires that the manager establish a contingent relationship between on task behaviour and reinforcing consequence. The reinforcing consequences may be social as well as financial. The effectiveness of OBM resides in its focus on the essential element of human productivity namely, directed behaviour. Opsomming Bestuur van Organisasiegerigte Gedrag (BOG) of Organisational Behaviour Management (OBM) verteenwoordig 'n nuwe uitkyk op die konsep van produktiwiteit daar dit nie soseer op "houdings" of'motiveringsdrange" konsentreer nie as op die beheer van taakgerigte gedrag. Die kontingensie van antesedent-gedrag-gevolg, of die funksionele analise van gedrag soos wat dit bekend staan in BOG, bied 'n uiteensetting van hoe gedrag ontstaan en hoe dit versterk ofvoortgesit word. Hierdie benadering tot produktiwiteit vereis van die bestuur om 'n kontingente verhouding te skep tussen taakgerigte gedrag en versterkende gevolge. Hierdie gevolge mag van sosiale of finansiele aard wees. Die doeltreffendheid van BOG berus op die sentrale veronderstelling dat gedrag ordelik is en op die fokus wat dit plaas op die kritieke element van menslike produktiwiteit, naamlik gerigte gedrag.
