Abstract: El signo del Mercedes Benz se observa tanto en radiografía simple de abdomen como en to-mografía computada y está dado por la presencia de gas que se dispone en forma de estrella de tres puntas dentro de cálculos biliares, luego de un proceso de cristalización natural de los mismos. Fue descrito en 1931 en radiografías simples realizadas a pacientes con dolor abdominal sin causa aparente y luego se lo observó en tomografía computada, método cada vez más utilizado para el estudio de pacientes de este tipo. Si bien el signo del Mercedes Benz permite presumir la presencia de cálculos biliares en la mayoría de los casos, también deben considerarse diagnósticos diferenciales como aerobilia y colecistitis enfisematosa. Three-dimensional "Mercedes-Benz" model for water  [PDF]

Abstract: In this paper we introduce a three-dimensional version of the Mercedes-Benz model to describe water molecules. In this model van der Waals interactions and hydrogen bonds are given explicitly through a Lennard-Jones potential and a Gaussian orientation-dependent terms, respectively. At low temperature the model freezes forming Ice-I and it reproduces the main peaks of the experimental radial distribution function of water. In addition to these structural properties, the model also captures the thermodynamical anomalies of water: the anomalous density profile, the negative thermal expansivity, the large heat capacity and the minimum in the isothermal compressibility.

Abstract: We investigate ice polyamorphism in the context of the two-dimensional Mercedes-Benz model of water. We find a first-order phase transition between a crystalline phase and a high-density amorphous phase. Furthermore we find a reversible transformation between two amorphous structures of high and low density; however we find this to be a continuous and not an abrupt transition, as the low-density amorphous phase does not show structural stability. We discuss the origin of this behavior and its implications with regard to the minimal generic modeling of polyamorphism.

Abstract: this article looks to contribute to the discussion on transformations in the brazilian automobile industry and their consequences for workers by focusing on the debate over mechanisms of working class reproduction. the text examines in particular the processes of socializing new generations and the ways of transmitting a 'working class culture,' involving both the constitution of a feeling of class belonging and mechanisms for denying and/or escaping the working class condition. the discussion focuses on the analysis of a specific case: the history of the professional training school of mercedes-benz in brazil and its modalities of socialization and preparation for manufacturing work. founded some fifty years ago, the school is run at the mercedes-benz plant in s?o bernardo do campo in partnership with senai. i discuss the role played by the school in the life of various generations of mercedes-benz workers in order to show how the institution's training and qualifications have acquired new meanings over recent decades as a result of transformations in the work market and changes in the perceptions of auto workers.

Abstract: X5 and 335d model diesel cars built by Bayerische Motoren Werke Ak-tiengesellschaft (BMW AG) between 2009 and 2011 were sued in a USA court in New Jersey for creating more pollution on the roads than in laboratory tests. BMW AG used testing methods similar to those admitted to by Volkswagen AG for cheating authorities (https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-03-27/bmw-sued-for-installing-defeat-devices-in-u-s-diesel-cars) [1]. Other manufacturers of diesel driven cars, for example, Ford Motor Co., Mercedes-Benz, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV, General Motors Co., and Volkswagen, have also produced diesel driven cars with higher levels of environmental pollution caused by sulfur oxides and NOx in exhaust gasses than is permissible. These companies have also met with similar problems and legal accusations. Was all this only the fault of the diesel car manufacturers, or was it perhaps a well-prepared attempt to discredit the diesel cars as they are or maybe the diesel motor as it is? Was it an attempt to favor the electric driven cars by undermining the manufacturers of diesel driving cars, and even possibly by undermining all manufacturers of cars driven by internal combustion engines (ICEs)? Diesel driven vehicles as a type of motor driven means are very powerful and economical and can be environmentally cleaner than other motor driven media, including electrically driven vehicles, if the total pollution produced by such vehicles is taken into account. The total manufacturing pollution from motor driven means, the handling, and the production of the driving force (e.g., benzene, kerosene, gasoline, diesel, and electricity) should all be taken into account. The environmental safety of the utilization of motor driven means and parts thereof after such vehicles have been decommissioned is also a very important consideration. The health hazards and environmental safety associated with the production, handling, and decommissioning must be considered as significant factors in the ranking of motor driven vehicles as a contributor to environmental pollution and health hazards.
PERFORMANCE AND EMISSION STUDIES ON DI-DIESEL ENGINE FUELED WITH PONGAMIA METHYL ESTER INJECTION AND METHANOL CARBURETION

Abstract: The target of the present study is to clarify ignition characteristics, combustion process and knock limit of methanol premixture in a dual fuel diesel engine, and also to improve the trade-off between NOx and smoke markedly without deteriorating the high engine performance. Experiment was conducted to evaluate the performance and emission characteristics of direct injection diesel engine operating in duel fuel mode using Pongamia methyl ester injection and methanol carburetion. Methanol is introduced into the engine at different throttle openings along with intake air stream by a carburetor which is arranged at bifurcated air inlet. Pongamia methyl ester fuel was supplied to the engine by conventional fuel injection. The experimental results show that exhaust gas temperatures are moderate and there is better reduction of NOx, HC, CO and CO2 at methanol mass flow rate of 16.2 mg/s. Smoke level was observed to be low and comparable. Improved thermal efficiency of the engine was observed.

Abstract: Air embolus has always been a recognised hazard within the practice of diagnostic imaging. This is now, more than ever, the case with the advent of the widespread use of pump injectors for intravenous contrast delivery and the increasing use of percutaneous interventions in the lungs. The different clinical syndromes associated with air embolus in the systemic venous (right heart) circulation and the systemic arterial (left heart) circulation need to be clearly understood in order to diagnose and treat these conditions in the clinical setting. This article reviews the topic of air embolus, including diagnosis and treatment, as this specifically relates to the practice of diagnostic and interventional radiology. The article also includes images relating to the depiction of air embolus, with attention drawn to a commonly encountered imaging appearance or sign. Dynamics of polynomials in finite and infinite Benz planes

Abstract: The classical Benz planes, that is, M bius, Minkowski, and Laguerre planes, can be coordinatized [cf. 1], respectively, by the field C of complex numbers, the ring of “double numbers” z=x+jy (x,y R) where an element j not in R, with j2=1 is adjoined, and the ring of “dual numbers” z=x+ye where an element e not in R with e2=0 is adjoined to R. When the field R is replaced by another field, in our case finite prime fields Fp (p a prime), one also obtains coordinate structures for corresponding Benz planes. The dynamics of polynomials of degree at least 2 in the classical M bius plane has attracted much attention recently because there fractal structures make their appearance. The question posed in this context has been for which values of z the sequence Pn+1(z)=PO(Pn(z)) is bounded if PO(z) is a function. This gave rise to the determination of Julia and Mandelbrot sets for such functions [cf. 2]. In this paper we will restrict ourselves to the case of Minkowski and Laguerre planes and to functions PO that are polynomials of degree at least 2, with coefficients from the ground field.
ACCIDENT PREDICTION MODEL FOR PASSENGER CARS  [PDF]

Abstract: Presently about 40% of the vehicles plying on the roads of Lahore consist of passenger cars. The quantity of passenger cars is on rise with of time. This huge quantity of passenger cars necessitates the need to study the mechanical state of cars and behaviour of car drivers towards safety. For this purpose a questionnaire comprising more than 100 vehicular and drivers characteristics of passenger cars was prepared to conduct a field survey at 100 locations of a sample of 3,800 passenger cars. Statistical analyses using SPSS software was done to identify the most significant vehicular and drivers characteristics contributing to annual number of accidents by each car driver. An attempt is also made to develop an accident prediction model (APM) using linear multiple regression technique to estimate the annual number of accidents per car driver relating to the most significant vehicular and driver’s characteristics of the passenger cars.
