Different Motivations of Chinese Students Learning Japanese and English in Japan  [PDF]
Yunlong Liu, Lezhou Su
Open Journal of Modern Linguistics (OJML) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/ojml.2016.61003
Abstract: As literacy in English and Japanese is usually a part of requirements for international students applying for Japanese universities, Chinese students in Japan, like other international students whose first language is neither English nor Japanese, have to engage in learning the two foreign languages simultaneously. The focus of this research is on the learning motivations of this Chinese student population. It attempts to judge whether differences exist in terms of motivations between their English and Japanese learning; and if so, what differences are there? It also aims to investigate what variables might influence their self-regulation of Japanese and English respectively. A survey of 46 subjects was conducted using a questionnaire with questions related to ideal L2 self, international orientation, self-efficacy beliefs, instrumentality, intrinsic motivation, motivated behavior, language learning anxiety, self-regulation, learning experience, peer pressure, parent encouragement and the role of teachers. The results of Independent Sample t-Test seem to suggest that there are distinctive differences between English learning and Japanese learning in terms of motivation. Regression analysis seems to indicate that Chinese students’ self-regulation in Japanese learning differs to some extent from that in English learning in the sense that they tend to be affected by different sets of variables.
Comparison of knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of Chinese dental interns on hepatitis B among different de-partments

- , 2017, DOI: 10.7518/gjkq.2017.02.003
Abstract: Objective This study investigated and compared the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors(KAB) of Chinese dental interns towards hepatitis B virus(HBV) infection among different departments. Methods A self-administered questionnaire was surveyed among 232 students who were taking clinical practice. Descriptive statistics and bivariate analyses were used to identify associations between KAB and Results obtained from different departments and genders. Results Over 80% of participants, independent of affiliated departments, displayed good or excellent level of knowledge. Prosthodontic students have a higher knowledge score compared with students from oral conservative dentistry(P=0.035) and oral maxillofacial surgery(P=0.019 87). Interns from oral conservative dentistry who were exposed to HBV-infected patients have different attitudes(P=0.006), which is also shared by oral maxillofacial surgery(P=0.047). Interns from each department reported that over 60% of them received all three required doses of vaccination or even over three doses, specifically for orthodontic interns, which is around 80%. 34% interns from oral conservative dentistry reported “always” or “mostly” when checking antibody titer status, but 66% of interns from orthodontics said “rarely” or “never”. Orthodontic students had lower injury rate compared with students from oral conservative dentistry(P=0.044), and has a lower trend compared with students of oral maxillofacial surgery(P=0.053). 100% orthodontic interns “always” wear gown. Oral conservative dentistry had higher score than oral maxillofacial surgery(P=2.31e-6), prosthodontics(P=1.704e-7) and orthodontics(P=1.3e-5). Female students have a significantly higher score than male students(P=2.584e-5). Conclusion More knowledge about transmission of HBV should be required from prosthodontic interns. Orthodontic interns should hold on high vaccination rates and check antibody titer status more frequently. Interns from oral
Impact of Chinese anthropogenic emissions on submicrometer aerosol concentration at Mt. Tateyama, Japan  [PDF]

Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics (ACP) & Discussions (ACPD) , 2009,
Abstract: Rapid Asian economic development might engender secondary impacts of atmospheric aerosol particles over the western Pacific after conversion of gaseous pollutants such as SO2. To elucidate changes in aerosol concentrations in leeward areas undergoing remarkable industrialization, the number-size distributions of submicrometer (0.3–1.0 μm) aerosols were measured at Murododaira (36.6° N, 137.6° E, 2450 m a.s.l.) on the western flank of Mount Tateyama in central Japan during January 1999–February 2009. Nighttime data obtained from 2400 to 0500 were used to analyze free-tropospheric aerosol concentration. Monthly average volume concentrations were calculated for months with >50% daily data coverage. Volume concentrations of submicrometer aerosols were high in spring to early summer and low in winter. Significant increasing trends at 95% confidence levels were found for volume concentrations in winter–spring. Simulated monthly anthropogenic aerosol concentrations at Mt. Tateyama from results of regional aerosol modeling with emission inventory up to 2005 showed seasonal variation and winter–spring increasing trends similar to those of observed aerosol concentration. According to the model analyses, the contribution of anthropogenic aerosol concentrations derived from China was high during winter–spring (60–80% of total anthropogenic aerosols at Mt. Tateyama). This accords with the increasing trend observed for winter–spring. Because SO42 is the dominant component of total anthropogenic aerosols, these results suggest that increasing anthropogenic emissions, especially for SO2, in China, engender enhancement of submicrometer-diameter aerosols over Japan during winter–spring.

Archaeological Discoveries in the Area of Izumo in Japan and the Eastward Spread of Chinese Yue Culture

LIU Weiwen,

浙江大学学报(人文社会科学版) , 1999,
Abstract: This paper analyses the new archaeological findings in the area Izumo of Japan in many respects as indicated in the relics, customs and believes in both Japanese and Yue Cultures. It aims at the relation between the "Realm of Izumo" in Japanese mythology and the eastward emmigration of the Chinese Yue clan. It stresses the influence of the Japanese snake belief derived from the Yue culture due to their eastward emmigration. Besides, it reveals the historical fact of the eastward spread of the Chinese Yue Culture before the Han Dynasty and the activities of the ancient Yue clan between the north of Kitakiuxiu and the west coast of Japan.
Health Food Market in Japan and Exploitation of Resources of Chinese Medicinal Materials (CMM) in China

Li Gang,Liu Chun,

世界科学技术-中医药现代化 , 2000,
Abstract: In Japan, health food, especially the health food processed out of imported Chinese medicinal materials (CMM), is getting more and more popular. This fact deserves our attention. As the Chinese enterprises are weak in the design and development of new products on the basis of CMM theory, the health food presently exported to Japan is mostly in the from of raw material and thus low in profit. To meet this challenge, Chinese enterprises should spare no effort to apply CMM theory as technological basis so as to develop modernized products, open up international health food market and participate in global competition.
Organizational Attachment of Interns in Poland to Healthcare System
Wojciech Bolanowski
International Journal of Occupational Medicine and Environmental Health , 2007, DOI: 10.2478/v10001-007-0025-1
Abstract: Objectives: Despite the profound structural reform of the health service in Poland, the present organizational system of health care is subject to severe criticism. It is described as unjust and enhancing malpractice as well as migration of young doctors abroad. The commonly expressed disapproval and own observations on the organization and functions of health care are expected to affect future performance of medical interns and suppress their motivation to pursue professional career. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the extent to which the interns approve the present healthcare system as a measure of their organizational attachment. Method: Questionnaire survey was conducted in 992 interns (mean age 26 years) in 2004 and responses were evaluated using a specially designed scale of approval. Results: The majority of interns expressed high disapproval of the healthcare system. Conclusions: This disapproval can be regarded as an indirect measure of the lack of organizational attachment on the part of the interns. These findings may have negative consequences for the future functions of healthcare in Poland. Therefore, measures should be undertaken to promote positive attitudes among medical students and interns. The disapproval of the system is a personal attitude independent of the social and economic characteristics. One should note that the personnel mobility opportunities do not seem to be playing the role of an effective "safety valve" to diminish the disapproval of the system by medical interns.
