FRONTO AVUS: THE TALE OF A GRANDFATHER  [cached]
J-M Claassen
Akroterion , 2012, DOI: 10.7445/52-0-52
Abstract: This paper examines some examples from the correspondence of the secondcentury rhetor, the Romanised African M. Cornelius Fronto, in particular letters that relate to the death of his grandson, drawing conclusions about Fronto as grandfather and as a person who had sustained previous bereavements. His attitude to his daughter Cratia2 and son-in-law Aufidius Victorinus receives special attention. The question of why Fronto seems to favour Victorinus over his own daughter when both are plunged into grief is addressed. It seems that in the grief of the younger man the older relives the agonies of his own youth, when he and his wife lost a series of children before bringing up Cratia as an only child.

Personalidade e conduta violenta  [PDF]
Gauer, Gabriel José Chittó
Civitas , 2001,

Clinical characterization of the fronto-temporal dementia patients.

MedUNAB , 2004,
Abstract: Three clinical and psychometric profiles of patients with fronto-temporal dementia (FTD) has been recently described as cases series from the most important research centers of the world, where there is the possibility for a diagnosis by a consensus criteria. In this article, a group of patients from the Memory Clinic at the Hospital Universitario de San Ignacio, in Bogotá City has been studied. Three hundred and forty eight patients were studied by the Memory Clinic Group, of which 45 had the criteria for FTD, 259 the criteria for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and 44 were controls. The statistical analysis was realized with the best distinctions to define the FTD group were: predominance of men (73% vs. 31% in AD), younger age of onset (65 years vs. 76 years in AD) Columbia Behavioral Scale more compromised (10 vs. 7 in AD and 1 in controls) and MMS inferior to controls (24 vs. 27) but superior to AD (24 vs. 20). These distinctions aid to better define the profile of patients with FTD, but also open a new questions which we expect to answer, soon, in a longitudinal study of this persons.

Revista Brasileira de Otorrinolaringologia , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-72992002000300006
Abstract: introduction: the mucocele is an expansive benign tumor due to the filling of a closed cavity with mucus. frequently involving the fronto-ethmoidal sinus, it is a rare otolaryngological condition. the etiology is divided into inflammatory and obstructive causes. aim: to evaluate the endoscopic endonasal surgical approach for fronto-ethmoidal sinus mucoceles. study design: clinical prospective. material and method: thirteen patients were followed during the period of january of 2000 to april of 2001, regarding the clinical findings, evolution and surgical results. results: all patients presented proptosis as the major symptom. seven patients had the inflammatory form and two the obstructive one. two patients presented ophthalmologic complications and underwent orbital decompression associated with the endoscopic endonasal technique. there were no recurrences in our study. conclusions: the endoscopic endonasal approach for fronto-ethmoidal sinus mucoceles is an effective treatment for the disease, avoiding the complications of the early techniques.

Abstract:

The association between stroke and meningioma is rarely reported in the data. In most etiology classification, there is no compressive cause. The association between meningioma and stroke is increasingly reported. We report a case of 52-year-old woman, previously healthy, presented with sudden right hemiplegia with some transient mood disorders. The CT-scan revealed acute left anterior cerebral artery infarction associated with fronto-basale meningioma infiltrating both anterior cerebral arteries. She was treated by corticosteroid and rehabilitation, with partial recovery. No stroke prevention was used before surgical treatment.

Damage to the Fronto-Polar Cortex Is Associated with Impaired Multitasking  [PDF]

PLOS ONE , 2008, DOI: 10.1371/journal.pone.0003227
Abstract: Background A major question in understanding the functional organization of the brain is to delineate the functional divisions of the prefrontal cortex. Of particular importance to the cognitive capacities that are uniquely human is the fronto-polar cortex (Brodmann's area 10), which is disproportionally larger in humans relative to the rest of the brain than it is in the ape's brain. The specific function of this brain region remains poorly understood, but recent neuroimaging studies have proposed that it may hold goals in mind while exploring and processing secondary goals. Principal Findings Here we show that the extent of damage to the fronto-polar cortex predicts impairment in the management of multiple goals. This result reveals that the integrity of the fronto-polar cortex is necessary to perform tasks that require subjects to maintain a primary goal in mind while processing secondary goals, an ability which is crucial for complex human cognitive abilities. Conclusion/Significance These results provide important new insights concerning the cerebral basis of complex human cognition such as planning and multitasking.

Egyptian Journal of Medical Human Genetics , 2009,
Abstract: A report of a rare case of Fronto-nasal dysplasia (Median cleft face syndrome) in a full term boy delivered normally with birth weight of 3.719 kg. The baby has the classical features of the syndrome both phenotypically and radiologically. There were no other associated anomalies except for mild dilatation of right renal pelvis. There were no history of consanguinity and no family history of similar conditions in the family, so inheritance of this case is considered sporadic.
