Life Cycle Observations on Amphilocus neapolitanus (Della Valle, 1853) (Crustacea, Amphipoda) Associated with Sargassum cymosum C. Agardh, 1820 in Ubatuba, (SP), Brazil
Leite, Fosca Pedini Pereira;
Brazilian Archives of Biology and Technology , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-89132002000300014
Abstract: day and night densities, reproductive biology and life cycle of amphilocus neapolitanus (della valle, 1853), associated with sargassum cymosum c. agardh, 1820, were studied during 13 months. the density of juveniles, males and females was higher in night samples than in day samples. sex ratio was strongly favorable toward the females. ovigerous females were present in similar densities in both the periods while the non-ovigerous females were predominant at night. the egg number was not correlated with the size of the females. breeding occurred throughout the year.

CLAVE GRáFICA PARA LA IDENTIFICACIóN DE FAMILIAS Y GéNEROS DE anfípodos DEL SUBORDEN GAMMARIDEA DEL ATLáNTICO OCCIDENTAL TROPICAL
Ortíz,Manuel;
Boletín de Investigaciones Marinas y Costeras - INVEMAR , 1994,
Abstract: the study of amphipod crustaceans has recently increased significantly, mostly because of their great ecological importance. those of the tropical western atlantic, have not been an exception. the study of this group is so complex that families, genera, or species, are rarely included in ecological studies of the marine benthos of this area. the pictorial key presented herein is designed to facilitate the identification of the 30 families and 137 genera of amphipods of the suborder gammaridea (excluding fresh-water forms) from the tropical western atlantic. there is no precedent in amphipod literature of such a key, at least to generic level.
Guía ilustrada para la identificación de las familias y los géneros de los Anfípodos del suborden Gammaridea de la Península Ibérica
Ortiz, Manuel,Jimeno, Antonio
Graellsia , 2001,
Abstract: An original pictorial guide for the identification of the Families and Genera of the amphipod crustaceans of the Sub Order Gammaridea, from the Iberian Peninsula is presented. The guide includes a total of 40 Families and 142 Genera. When using the guide, it is necessary only, to compare the specimen to be classified with a Master key of 10 plates, for the Family identification. The Master Key is followed by an alphabetically ordered 66 plates, which allow to confirm the Families, and to select the Genera. This system, avoid problems of terminology, and the subjectivity of the classical dichotomic keys.
Jacobucci, Giuliano B.;Leite, Fosca P. P.;
Revista Brasileira de Zoologia , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-81752006000400031
Abstract: the population biology of three species of the family ampithoidae (ampithoe ramondi, cymadusa filosa e sunampithoe pelagica) associated with sargassum filipendula at fortaleza beach, northern coast of s?o paulo state was investigated from june 2000 to may 2001. the amphipods were identified, counted and separated in size classes through a nested sieve set. month hystograms were obtained for juveniles, males and females. the ampithoid sex ratio was determined monthly. the reproductive biology of the species was evaluated by the relative frequency of ovigerous females, fecundity, average egg volume and correlation analysis between head lengh of ovigerous females and number of eggs in its brood pouch. ampithoe ramondi was the most abundant species. the higher densities of the three species occurred in spring and summer. the sex ratio presented a significant difference from 1:1 only for a. ramondi (1:1.2; x2 = 4.37; g.l. = 1; p < 0.05). ovigerous females were registered for almost all the sampling periods. a positive correlation between the female head lengh and the number of eggs were only registered for a. ramondi (r2 = 0.27; p < 0.05; n = 33). cymadusa filosa showed the greatest fecundity and egg volume.

CRUSTáCEOS ANFíPODOS (GAMMARIDEA) COLECTADOS EN LAS COSTAS DEL CARIBE COLOMBIANO, AL SUR DE CARTAGENA
Ortíz,Manuel; Lemaitre,Rafael;
Boletín de Investigaciones Marinas y Costeras - INVEMAR , 1994,
Abstract: during studies of the crustacean fauna from the caribbean coast of colombia, a number of samples were obtained in march and july of 1991 at various localities south of cartagena. a qualitative study of the samples revealed the existence of 43 species of amphipods, 25 of which (58%) had not been previously reported for this coast. a systematic list is presented as well as a description of the substrate where the species were found. the majority were collected from seagrass-bed habitats. considering that sampling was limited almost exclusively to these habitats, the number of species found is high when compared to other areas in the caribbean.
