Abstract: The Psyllidae are sap-suckers insects, highly host and food specific, found mainly in sprouts, and are considered important guava pests. Large populations of these insects can be hazardous, since they cause plant weakness by the toxic action of the saliva injected during their feeding process. The objective of this work was to verify the population fluctuation of the psyllidae Trizoida limbata in guava trees in Londrina, Paraná, Brazil. The monitoring of an adult T.limbata population was carried out in areas of wild guava trees, using 10 yellow adhesive traps, 30 m far from each other. Collection took place monthly from March 2002 to May 2003. T.limbata populations were found during every month of the year, reaching their peak in October. Average and maximum temperatures showed a significant correlation with the psyllidae population fluctuation, affecting it positively. Heavy rain periods and low temperatures were not restricting, but they caused a reduction in population Os psilídeos s o insetos sugadores de seiva, muito específicos com rela o ao hospedeiro e alimenta o, ocorrendo principalmente em brota es, sendo considerados uma importante praga de goiabeira. O objetivo deste trabalho foi conhecer a flutua o populacional do psilídeo Triozoida limbata em goiabeiras na regi o de Londrina, Paraná. Em áreas de ocorrência natural de plantas de goiaba foi realizado o monitoramento da popula o de adultos utilizando-se 10 armadilhas adesivas amarelas, colocadas uma por planta, distanciadas cerca de 30 metros entre si. As coletas foram realizadas mensalmente de mar o de 2002 a maio de 2003. Popula es de T. limbata ocorreram durante todos os meses do ano, com pico em outubro. Temperaturas médias e máximas apresentaram correla o significativa com a popula o do psilídeos, afetando-a positivamente. Períodos com alta pluviosidade ou baixas temperaturas n o foram limitantes, mas causaram redu o na popula o.
Failure of imidacloprid and thiacloprid to control the guava-psyllid, Triozoida limbata (Enderlein) (Hemiptera: psyllidae)

Abstract: the guava-psyllid, triozoida limbata (enderlein), is a severe pest of guava orchards, reducing fruit production. this communication shows the results of an experiment aimed to test nicotinoid insecticides for controlling the guava-psyllid at a high-density level of infestation. unsatisfactory control of this pest was achieved with imidacloprid al 100 g/l, at 5, 10 or 20 ml sprayed once onto the guava stem; with imidacloprid sc 200 g/l, at 0.6 ml in 2 l of water/tree and with thiacloprid sc 480 g/l, at 0.2 ml in 2 l of water/tree, both sprayed twice (15 day interval) on the guava foliage. possible causes of the failure are discussed in relation to several factors, since previous research showed satisfactory control of the guava-psyllid with these insecticides.

Abstract: the present work aimed at learning the population dynamic of triozoida limbata (enderlein, 1918) (hemiptera: psyllidae) in a guava orchard submitted to the minimum use of insecticide in jaboticabal - sp. for the study of population fluctuation and the evolution of damage from the psillid we analyzed 20 plants of the orchard biweekly, during the period from march 2005 to june 2006. for each plant we evaluated 10 leaves containing the symptom of the attack from the psillid. the evaluated parameters were the number of nymphs and the percentage of damage caused in the leaves, in accordance with a scale of notes. these parameters were analyzed in histograms and correlated to the meteorological factors. the population density of the psillid increased considerably with the approach of the spring and presented a positive correlation with the temperature. the level of damage of the psillid accompanied the population density of the pest. according to the data found in this work we may conclude that the increase of the temperature causes an increase in the population density of t. limbata and the largest population densities from psillid occur in the months of september to november and the smallest densities occur between the months of may and july.

Abstract: Com o objetivo de obter informa es para implementa o do Manejo Integrado do psilídeo da goiabeira, no Vale do S o Francisco, realizaram-se estudos sobre nível de dano, plantas invasoras hospedeiras, seletividade e efeito do thiamethoxam 10GR e 250WG no controle de Triozoida sp. O experimento foi conduzido em Petrolina-PE, em blocos ao acaso, com quatro repeti es. Os tratamentos foram: 1) thiamethoxam 10GR aplicado no solo; 2) thiamethoxam 250WG pulverizado semanalmente; 3) thiamethoxam 10GR aplicado no solo + thiamethoxam 250WG pulverizado semanalmente; 4, 5 e 6) pulveriza es com thiamethoxam 250WG quando se constatou 10, 20 e 30% de ramos infestados, respectivamente; 7, 8 e 9) thiamethoxam 10GR aplicado no solo + thiamethoxam 250WG pulverizado semanalmente quando se constatou 10, 20 e 30% de ramos danificados, respectivamente e 10) testemunha (sem inseticida). A percentagem de galhos infestados na testemunha (33,6%) diferiu significativamente dos tratamentos 2 (2,8%), 3 (4,33%), 4 (19,7%), 7 (13,45%), 8 (14,50%) e 9 (15,00%). Nas parcelas tratadas com thiamethoxam, a redu o populacional de inimigos naturais variou de 12,5 a 39,6%, correspondendo às notas 1 e 2 na escala de seletividade (1 = atóxico (< 25%), 2 = pouco tóxico (25-50%). O número e o peso de frutos foram semelhantes em todos os tratamentos. Foram encontradas 51 espécies de invasoras, nenhuma hospedeira do psilídeo.

Abstract: Fissurella limbata (Sowerby, 1835), presenta un número cromosómico diploide 2n = 32 similar al descrito previamente para otras especies del género Fissurella Reeve 1849. El juego cromosómico haploide deF limbata tiene siete cromosomas metacéntricos, seis submetacéntricos y tres subtelocéntricos. Los cromosomas son peque os y no exceden de 4,0 mm en longitud.

Abstract: the disease known as 'permanente del tomate' produces the greatest damage in those regions where tomato plantings are established in the spring-summer season. the etiology of this disease has been related to non-cultured type bacteria and its transmission with the psillid bactericera (=paratrioza) cockerelli (sulc) (hemiptera: triozidae). the objective of this research was to discern the association between the psillid and the disease. the obtention of inoculum and the bioassay s for transmission were performed in entomological cages under greenhouse conditions. transmission from tomato plant to tomato plant was performed through grafting from plants that showed the characteristic symptoms of the disease in the field. tissue from diseased plants and from the psillid was analyzed by pcr, hybridization and sequenciation of cloned products. the reproduction of the disease symptoms was observed in tomato plants grafted and in plants exposed to b. cockerelli. bioassays of transmission of this pathogen by the insect were positive, and the acquisition periods were: 15 min, 2, 3 and 48 h for nymphs and 30 min, 2, 3, 8 and 48 h for adults, with transmission periods of 15 min, 2 and 24 h for adults and 24 h of incubation. the product of pcr of b cockerelli was cloned and partially sequenced and registered in the gene bank with the number dq355020, this sequence presented 99% similarity with accessions dq355018 and dq355019 obtained from diseased tomato plants with permanente del tomate, which confirms the association between the insect and the disease.

Abstract: this study was conducted to increment the integrated management of triozoida sp. (hemiptera, psylliidae) in guava plants at the s?o francisco river valley. the damage level, weed hosts, selectivity and effect of the thiamethoxam 10gr and 250wg in the control of psylliidae were evaluated. the experiment was carried out in an irrigated area, at petrolina, pernambuco, in a randomized block design with four replications. treatments consisted of: 1) thiamethoxam 10gr applied on soil; 2) thiamethoxam 250wg sprayed weekly; 3) thiamethoxam 10gr applied on soil + thiamethoxam 250wg sprayed weekly; 4; 5; 6) thiamethoxam 250wg sprayed when 10, 20 and 30% of infested branches were reached, respectively; 7; 8; 9) thiamethoxam 10gr applied on soil + thiamethoxam 250wg sprayed when 10, 20 and 30% of infested branches were reached, respectively; and 10) control (no insecticide). the percentage of infested branches in the control treatment differed significantly from the treatments 2 (2.8%), 3 (4.3%), 4 (19.7%), 7 (13.4%), 8 (14.5%) and 9 (15.0%). when thiamethoxam was used, the population reduction of natural enemies ranged from 12.5 to 39.6%, corresponding, in the selective scale, to grades (1 = non offensive (< 25%), 2 = not very toxic (25-50%). number and weight of fruits were similar in all the treatments. fifty one weed species and no host of triozoida sp. were found.
TOXICIDAD DE CUATRO INSECTICIDAS SOBRE TAMARIXIA TRIOZAE (BURKS) (HYMENOPTERA: EULOPHIDAE) Y SU HOSPEDERO BACTERICERA COCKERELLI (SULC) (HEMIPTERA: TRIOZIDAE)

Abstract: Bactericera cockerelli es una de las plagas más importantes en solanáceas en México. Su manejo se basa en el uso de insecticidas y recientemente se ha explorado el uso del parasitoide Tamarixia triozae dentro de un programa de MIP, por lo que el objetivo del presente trabajo fue explorar la compatibilidad de insecticidas con este parasitoide. En este trabajo se evaluó, en condiciones de laboratorio (25 ± 2 oC, 60 ± 5% H.R.), la toxicidad de azadiractina, spinosad, imidacloprid y abamectina sobre T. triozae y B. cockerelli. Los cuatro insecticidas resultaron tóxicos tanto para el psílido como para el parasitoide, aunque el grado de toxicidad dependió de la especie, insecticida, estado biológico específico, dosis y forma en que los insectos se expusieron a los productos. De acuerdo a la IOBC, la abamectina y el spinosad fueron los productos más tóxicos (categoría 3), mientras imidacloprid y azadiractina presentaron niveles bajos de toxicidad (categoría 1). Las ninfas del psílido fueron más tolerantes a los insecticidas que los adultos y la toxicidad se incrementó cuando los insectos se sumergieron directamente en los productos. El imidacloprid a dosis de 1.0 L ha-1 aplicado directamente sobre las pupas nulificó la emergencia del parasitoide. Spinosad fue el producto más persistente para el psílido y abamectina para el parasitoide, el efecto de ambos perduró hasta los 29 días. Por tanto, en condiciones de laboratorio ningún insecticida mostró compatibilidad con el uso de T. triozae al ser aplicados de manera simultánea, ya sea porque no fueron efectivos contra B. cockerelli durante el tiempo y forma de exposición (azadiractina e imidacloprid) o porque fueron muy tóxicos al parasitoide (abamectina y spinosad). En este trabajo se discuten algunas de las posibilidades de la combinación de estas estrategias de control, particularmente se indica la importancia de evaluar los productos bajo condiciones de campo.

Abstract: First register of Temnocephala (Platyhelminthes: Temnocephalida) in immature of Kempnyia reticulata (Enderlein) (Plecoptera: Perlidae). The insects were collected in rivers of Esta o Biológica de Santa Lúcia, Santa Teresa, Espirito Santo, Brazil. Primeiro registro de Temnocephala (Platyhelminthes: Temnocephalida) em imaturos de Kempnyia reticulata (Enderlein) (Plecoptera: Perlidae). Os insetos foram coletados em um riacho da Esta o Biológica de Santa Lúcia, Santa Teresa, Espírito Santo, Brasil.
