This research characterizes the tourist offer and sociocultural profile of the tourist businessmen of La Araucania Coastline. The tourist offer was analyzed according to proposal of Lewis (1997), making emphasis on the four municipalities that are part of this territory and have significant natural and cultural attractions reaching a total of 140. Along with this, the socio-cultural profile was examined through the notion of habitus proposed by Bourdieu and Waquant (2005) that allowed recognizing two profiles of tourism businessmen, one of them with a low level of expertise in the business (given the education and poverty indicators ) whose choice of activity rests in the efforts made by the Government and by others which from the ethno-tourism perspective have built a tourism offer of international level associated with other tourist providers in La Araucania region.

Faruk Alaeddino?lu
International Journal of Human Sciences , 2008,
Abstract: Economic development and change coming true in national and international scale are differently reflected to many cities. While some cites grow on the base of the advantages that modern and competitive industry brings, the others insist to be a part of the same change and challenge. In these cities as mentioned, traditional industry, like trade and agriculture, decreases in importance and it doesn’t give adequate support to urban organization. To remove the negative situation in question and to turn the process into positive one, cities use natural, historical and cultural tourism values as a tool in reviving the economy and correcting the life standards. But if these tools are to be continuously used, many variables need measuring. One of variables is public view to tourism and tourist. The author measures this variable in Sivas city by using public survey. If a tourism destination which wants to market its tourism values in local scale is to be successful, then market, consumer research and public look to tourism and tourist get more importance. Local people attitude come first in subjects to be evaluated. Public survey is one of rational way to evaluate public attitude too. In this context, the research findings related to socio-demographic and perception manner are evaluated by doing a public survey in Sivas City. Evaluations are taken up in terms of people’s personal preferences, their drive and informative organization. Perception relations are tried to analyze. Although being different in detail, the findings show that people have positive attitude to tourism to develop in the city.

Abstract: Montenegro as tourist destination is committed to providing a high quality experience for the tourists while carefully managing the use of a rare natural resource. In order to achieve the strategic objectives in sustainable tourism development in the future, the main focus should be given to the analysis of the main determinants of tourist satisfaction. Using a database that provides information on tourist travel behaviour and satisfaction during her/his stay in Montenegro, we have conducted empirical analysis to understand if the socio-demographic characteristics are associated with the level of tourist’s satisfaction. The effect of socio-demographic characteristics is measured through five dimensions: gender, age, country of residence, occupation and wage. Using multinomial logit model we analyze above mentioned socio-demographic characteristics and their influence on the level of tourist’s satisfaction in Montenegro.

Koedoe : African Protected Area Conservation and Science , 2009, DOI: 10.4102/koedoe.v51i1.158
Abstract: National parks in South Africa are seen as major tourism assets due to the wildlife and various activities for international and local visitors. Little is known of the socio-economic contribution of these parks to their respective local economies. The purpose of this research was to determine the socio-economic impact of the Karoo National Park (Karoo NP) in South Africa, especially the economic impact of the Karoo NP on the local economy, the impact of tourism business development in the Karoo district, and how the park affects the community. Three surveys were used to determine the socio-economic impact: a community survey, a business survey and a tourist survey. The results show that the park has an impact in terms of production, income generation and employment in the area, but this impact is not as significant as that of other national parks in South Africa. A small percentage (4%) of businesses in Beaufort West owe their existence to the Karoo NP, but most rely on tourist spending. For the park to have a greater impact, it is imperative to increase accommodation capacity, offer more activities and promote activities and attractions in the region. Conservation implication: The importance of this article lies in the economic value that conservation management generates as well as identifying the benefits that communities derive from the existence of a national park. It also supports the notion that conservation entails more than just conserving fauna and flora and highlights the interdependence of conservation, tourism and community participation. How to cite this article: Saayman, M., Saayman, A. & Ferreira, M., 2009, ‘The socio-economic impact of the Karoo National Park’, Koedoe 51(1), Art. #158, 10 pages. DOI: 10.4102/koedoe.v51i1.158

Tourismos : an International Multidisciplinary Journal of Tourism , 2006,
Abstract: Within the paradigm of tourist studies there has recently been an acceptance of the democratization of tourism and consumption. Missing from the notion of the democratization of tourism is the role of status building through the creation of cultural capital enhancing experiences. While tourist spaces may be becoming democratized, the relationships between tourists within those spaces are not. Increasingly tourists are relying on the performance and presence of other tourists who have similar interests and motives, what we call the role of the co-tourist, to facilitate the tourist experience. This paper addresses the importance of recognizing status and consumption for the study of tourism, posits the notion of a co-tourist, and ends with some reflections on the co-tourist in Santa Barbara, California.

Abstract: The research was aimed at identifying and validating determinants of tourist satisfaction. The study area was the provinces of Chimborazo, Cotopaxi, Pastaza, Tungurahua, defined in Zone 3 of Ecuador, which transcended their geostrategic commercial position in the center of the country. In this context, the main objective of the study was to measure tourist satisfaction and to evaluate its determinants defined in variables such as product, price, distribution and tourist service as secondary axes of scope and transversal design. The sample synthesized an unknown sampling frame of 610 random tourists, representative sample where a semi-structured personal survey of 34 questions was applied considering 46 moderate variables and 9 classification variables. The statistical techniques used correspond to the partial least squares (PLS) method to give consistency to four items of product, two of the price, three of the distribution, one of the promotion and finally five of the service that allowed. All this was validated with the internal consistency of the model through composite relativity (CR), and Cron Bach's alpha, convergent validity was analyzed using the mean variance extracted (AVE), the structural model was examined through the coefficient Of determination (R2) and the Path (β) values, determined that this relationship is positive and consistent between variables of infrastructure, attention, cleanliness of the establishment and availability of parking; food and fun; ease of finding places and availability of service information; gastronomic and cultural tourism, positive tourism experience, successful choice of destination, fulfilled expectations, repetition of the trip and recommendation of destination.

Abstract: Tourism or the hospitality industry is among those economic activities that apart from realizing direct economic profits, it directly or indirectly impacts on the development of many other industries. Tourism through the tourist movements has a major impact on the geographical space, this effect is manifested on all the elements that make up the space, and these effects can be economic, social, public and environmental. Tourism consists of two basic components: Tourist movement and consumption, tourist movement is a basic spatial element while tourism consumption is the basic element of the tourism industry expressing the economic impact of tourism. Tourist movement necessarily initiate tourism consumption. In this context the question arises: what initiates tourist movement? The answer is: recreational-tourism resources are the main initiators for tourist travel and a very important tourist motive which animates the tourist movement. If the recreational-tourist resources are characterized by greater attractiveness better ambient and greater curiosity value, etc. this will initiate more massive tourist movement and greater tourist consumption. Therefore the necessity of defining, explaining, analyzing, and sharing recreational - tourism resources will be the key factors and subjects of analysis in this paper.
