In this poper, five cumulus parameterization schemes with the send-prognostic method are tcsted and their availability in the typhoon rainfall system is discussed. It is found that the Arakawa-Schubert scheme can well describe the vertical structure of Q1 and Q2. The quasi-equilibrum hypothesis of the cloud work function in this scheme is verified. However, tbe Kuo-type schemes could not describe the vertical structures of Q 1 and Q2, mainly due to the hypothesis that the heating and moistening were,respectively, linearly proportional to T3 - T and q8 - q But the parameterhahon results were much better when the approach for finding cloud temperature was improved. It is shown that the multiple regression scheme by Krishnamurti gave better results than Kuo's (1974) scheme. The former one,which is casy to calculate, seems promising to be uscd in typhoon rainfall systems ifmeliorated properly.We have also analyzed the evolutional characteristics of cumulus during different periods of the ty-Phoon rainfall.
