Abstract:
Xinjiang is located in the northern of Asia continental block, it involved two tectonics region that is ancient Asia and Tethys tectonic domains. Now it is composed by Mesozoic-Cenozoic basin and Paleozoic era orogenic belt between those basins, Paleozoic orogenic belt mainly composed by epicontinental rock formation and magmatic rocks, include some fragments of oceanic crust and Precambrian crystallize basement. There are 12 oceanic crust fragments distribution from north to south, and concentrate fragments in 30 locations. These ophiolites be detached by Tarim basin, the northern is ancient Asia oceanic crust fragments and the southern is Tethys oceanic crust fragments. This paper introduces those basic characteristics and some latest progress of regional geological survey in Xinjiang.
