Problems and Prospects of Deregulation in the Nigerian Fourth Republic: Implication for Democratic Survival in Nigeria

Abstract:

This study unfolds the problems and prospects of deregulation in Nigeria by examining the scenario leading to the adoption of deregulation as a policy and mechanisms for injecting organizational effectiveness and efficiency in enhancing the productive and distributive capability of the State s economy. The study also discusses the mechanisms for ensuring consumer protection in a deregulated economy such as Nigeria which is experiencing a nascent democracy. However, for the present democratic experiment in the Nigerian State to survive, the researcher recommends that the present deregulation process in Nigeria must take cognizance of the Nigerian environment by responding to the needs and protection of the Nigerian people who have been politically and economically pauperized in the past 4 decades.
