Fundamental Connections in Differential Geometry: Quantum Field Theory, Electromagnetism, Chemistry and Fluid Mechanics

Jorge Zabadal, Ederson Staudt, Adnei Marinho, Vinícius Ribeiro
This work presents novel hydrodynamic formulations that reconcile the continuum hypothesis with the emergence of electromagnetic interactions among molecules from fundamental principles. Two models are proposed: a relativistic version of the Navier-Stokes equations derived from commutation relations, and a Helmholtz-like system obtained by applying the Hodge operator to the extended Navier-Stokes equations. Preliminary analysis suggests that the second model, with its nonlinear terms serving as ...

Calculation of Radon (Fluid) Precursors of Tectonic Earthquake

Igor Petrovich Dobrovolsky
On the Earth’s surface the continuous flow of fluids (different gases) is observed. During the preparation of an earthquake, there is the deformation of the environment which changes mass transfer conditions, and changes of this flow arise. These changes are perceived as earthquake precursor. It is the simplest to watch such variations on the flow of the radioactive gas of radon. In work calculation of this precursor in the two-phase environment is made.

Spectral analysis of the Derivation of Green’s Function of Helmholtz Integral Equation via Dirac-Delta Function and Cauchy Residual Approach

Md. Shuzon Ali, Sherajum Monira Bristy, Md. Abdullah Al Asad, Nur Hasan Mahmud Shahen
In this study, we have determined Green’s functions for Helmholtz integral equations in a spherical polar coordinate system in the whole plane domain with the aid of spectral Fourier transform technique. Our intended Green’s function solution has a dominant role to represent wave propagation with a high quantum wave number. The Diracdelta function also plays an important role here to represent the scattering region for wave propagation. The evaluation of the improper double integrals in the comp...

Analyzing the Impact of Age and Gender on COVID-19 Deaths Using Two-Way ANOVA

Azad Abdulhafedh
Since the start of COVID-19 there have been widely spread notions that men can contract the disease at a higher rate than women and are more likely to die from it. Furthermore, age has been reported as a risk factor in COVID-19 mortality, and a vast majority of COVID-19 deaths have been among elderly people. Therefore, it is interesting to conduct a statistical analysis on COVID-19 deaths to draw conclusions on whether men are more likely to die of COVID-19 than women, and the influence of age g...

Addressing Traffic Congestion by Using of the Counter-Intuitive Phenomenon of Braess’ Paradox in Transportation Networks

Azad Abdulhafedh
Vehicular traffic congestion is an extremely dangerous problem in urban areas, where transportation networks are becoming more complicated to design and execute. However, the apparent normal idea to build more roads in order to solve the traffic congestion can be sometimes quite a bad idea. The Braess’ paradox, which is a counter-intuitive phenomenon that can occur in transportation networks, states that under certain circumstances the addition of a new road to a traffic network can increase the...

Modeling Vehicle Crash Frequency When Multicollinearity Exists in Vehicle Crash Data: Ridge Regression versus Ordinary Least Squares Linear Regression

Azad Abdulhafedh
Ridge Regression is an important statistical method in modeling vehicle crash frequency when crash data contains collinear predictors. The term multicollinearity refers to the condition in which two or more predictors are highly correlated with one another. This would make the explanatory variables become very sensitive to small changes in the model. Multicollinearity reduces the precision of the estimated coefficients, which weakens the statistical power of the regression model. Common methods ...

The Phobia and Contentment for Mathematics. What Context Factors Can Do?

Isaac Bengre Taley, Douglas Koranteng Ndamenenu
The enactment of Ghana’s high school mathematics enjoins mathematics teachers to provide well-suited classroom instruction that engages students physically and cognitively. Since learners’ context factors can compromise the instructional efforts of mathematics teachers in delivering the curriculum, this study sought to explore the associations between the levels of students’ mathematics learning and mathematics anxiety with their gender, school type and learning styles. A descriptive survey invo...

Mathematical Modeling of the HIV-AIDS Epidemic

Roberto Arias, Kevin De Angeles, Shima Maleki, Reza R. Ahangar
A simple subset of an epidemic population model for HIV-AIDS can be split into the following: Susceptible, HIV-Infected, AIDS-infected, and Removed subsets (SHAR). We consider that the rate at which susceptible people become infected is proportional to the number of encounters between susceptible and infected individuals, which is proportional to the product of the two populations. A non-linear model is developed and its solution is produced with an Excel numerical approach using difference equa...

Comparison between Common Statistical Modeling Techniques Used in Research, Including: Discriminant Analysis vs Logistic Regression, Ridge Regression vs LASSO, and Decision Tree vs Random Forest

Azad Abdulhafedh
Statistical techniques are important tools in modeling research work. However, there could be misleading outcomes if sufficient care is undermined in choosing the right approach. Employing the correct analysis in any research work needs deep knowledge on the differences between these tools. Incorrect selection of the modeling technique would create serious problems during the interpretation of the findings and could affect the conclusion of the study. Each technique has its own assumptions and p...
