Possible Accidents Scenarios in Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant

Assef Molhem
This article discusses the implications of the Ukrainian military conflict on the safety and security of Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP). We have used some simplified models to calculate the boiling and boiling-off times of water in the spent fuel pools to estimate the impacts of complete shutdown of cooling systems and the probability of dangerous accidents in storage facilities. Our data confirm that this probability is not negligible, so, this factor of risk should be taken into consi...

Design of a Preamplifier for Silicon Detector Redout Experiment

Nan Wang, Chuanhao Hu, Tao Yue, Chengyang Li, Guoqiang Zeng
An experimental circuit design method of charge sensitive preamplifier for signal readout of silicon detector is introduced. Firstly, the circuit principle simulation and circuit parameter optimization are realized based on Multisim software. Secondly, the circuit is designed with junction field effect transistors (JFETs) as input stage, constant current source as load and integrated operational amplifier as amplifier stage. Finally, the circuit is applied to match silicon semiconductor detector...

Calculation and Study on the Exposure Buildup Factor of Type 316 Stainless Steel

Dan Li, Yinglei Guo, Guangxi Wang, Liangquan Ge
Buildup factor is an important parameter in the design of a radiation shielding system. As a manufacturing material commonly used for nuclear equipment, type 316 stainless steel is selected as the research object of this article. Exposure geometric progression fitting parameters and the corresponding exposure buildup factor (EBF) are calculated for type 316 stainless steel in the photon energy range of 0.015 MeV - 15 MeV, as well as penetration depth up to 40 mean-free-paths (mfp), and studied a...

Multi-Channel Low-Noise Analog Front Design

Bin Bai
With the development of digital nuclear pulse processing technology, the requirements for the analog front-end circuit of digital energy spectrometers are getting higher and higher. Not only need to reduce the noise caused by the device as much as possible, but also need to meet the needs of multi-channel data acquisition. This article based on VGA (Variable Gain Amplifier) has designed a multi-channel low-noise analog front-end circuit to meet the functional requirements of the energy spectrome...

A Boost Circuit Design of High-Precision Voltage Stabilized Power Supply

Hengxu Ma, Jiehao Chen, Jinge Zhou
This paper presents a high-precision stabilized power supply boost circuit design. First, the MC34063ADG chip was selected to convert the voltage to 15 V to meet the input voltage requirements of the voltage regulator chip afterwards. Then, the voltage regulator chip LM7812 suitable for circuit use was selected, which can use fewer external components to form a boost conversion circuit. Using Multisim software to simulate the circuit and system performance, analyze the circuit faults, calculate...

Comparative Study on Peak-Seeking Methods of the Mixed Radioactive Energy Spectrum

Rui Luo, Yao Huang, Xianghe Liu
The Geant4 software is used to simulate the CsI detector to measure the mixed energy spectrum from three radionuclides in the nuclear waste barrel. In this paper, a variety of methods are used to perform peak-seeking analysis on the mixed energy spectrum generating from 60Co, 137Cs and 226Ra, the effects of each peak-seeking method are compared for this complex energy spectrum. In this comparative experiment, the results show that the morphological energy spectrum peak-seeking method is more sui...

Development of Sparse Reconstruction Algorithm of Cone-Beam CT

Xianghe Liu, Yao Huang, Rui Luo
CT technology has been widely used in various fields such as medical treatment, industry, and materials. Recently years, cone-beam CT (CBCT) used in the medical field is replacing the traditional spiral CT slowly due to its unique advantages. Improving the performance of CBCT and the image reconstruction algorithms could obtain higher quality of images, meanwhile, these also reduce the exposure time of X-ray irradiation. And image reconstruction techniques based on sparse angles have benefits fo...

Monte Carlo Simulation of Angular Response Function of Airborne Gamma Spectrometer

Qianyin Wan, Yaohan Hu, Ruiyang Xu, Qiushi Liu
The angular response function F(θ, φ) is used as an airborne gamma spectrometer to measure the basic physical quantity of the contribution of each nuclide to the total dose rate by the all-energy peak method, which is facing the difficulty of experimental calibration. In this paper, the Monte Carlo program MCNP5 is used to calculate the full-energy peak angle response function F(θ, φ) of a single NaI(Tl) crystal (40 cm × 10 cm × 5 cm) to Cs-137. It has been verified that when the point source is...

Background Environmental Radiation in a Museum in Chengdu

Yang Shao, Hai Hu, Shijie Hu
In order to grasp the radon concentration and γ-ray radiation level in a museum in Chengdu, and evaluate the radiation damage caused to the museum staff, the radon concentration and the instantaneous dose rate of gamma rays in the museum warehouse and exhibition room were monitored and estimated the annual effective dose caused by it. The results show that the radon concentration range in the museum is 24.12 - 78.9 Bq/m3, the average is 36.17 Bq/m3, far below China’s 400 Bq/m3 standard. The rang...
