This study evaluates the growth performance of Arthrospira platensis in deep ocean water (DOW), surface ocean water (SOW), and artificial ocean water (AOW) with and without a supplementary medium (BG-11). During a 14-day growth period, A. platensis had the shortest generation time (5.22 ¡À 0.38 days) and the highest average daily biomass yield of 0.083 ¡À 0.007 g/L (dry weight) in the DOW medium without supplementary BG-11. A. platensis had significant better growth rates when cultured in AOW with BG-11 than in SOW without BG-11. However, A. platensis growth rates did not differ (p > 0.05) when cultured in AOW and DOW with BG-11. The results revealed that DOW without supplementary BG-11 is a superior medium for culturing A. platensis. %K Deep Ocean Water %K A. platensis %K Growth Rate %K Surface Ocean Water %K Artificial Ocean Water %U http://www.oalib.com/paper/3150893
